Bleach tip (by Tarheel T [NC]) Posted on: Apr 4, 2024 12:43 PM

Ive been buying pool essentials chlorine bleach for 5.79/gal at Walmart instead of regular or outdoor bleach. It is 10% concentrated which is stronger than outdoor bleach, and about half the price.

How i use it:

2 cups pool essentials diluted with water to make 1 gal in a sprayer with a squirt of dish soap sprayed on mobile home siding will take care of most any stains, you dont even need to wash it off. --75.131.xxx.xxx

Be cautious using pool strength bleachn for cleaning in a basement, it is too strong as you will notice by the coughing up blood and eye watering. More importantly it will effect metal products like door hinges - they get stuck in 1 position, metal furnace parts get rusted out as well as decaying thecircuit boards.

Bill,

Good stuff!

We use POOL SHOCK which is like 100 times as potent as bleach. Cheap at Rural King.

Started using it on flooded houses. Gotta use goggles to protect eyes from the mist.

I just heard about this tip from an awning company.

Have about ten pounds of dry pool shock and was considering mixing up a small batch to try it. I originally got it to make bleach for household cleaning since the dry stuff basically has an infinite shelf life.

Thought you needed to wash the stuff off the siding. I have some white vinyl I am going to test the theory on.

Do you use a regular sprayer or one made for bleach? --107.147.xx.xx

I had a cat urine stink in a move out recently. My painter suggested spraying pool shock on the walls and floors. It did a great job and got the unit back in service much quicker than the alternatives.

BTW, painter wore a good respirator. --149.76.xxx.x

One of the best tools in our bag of tricks is a special hose end sprayer. Made for HVAC coil cleaning. A NU CALGON 4774-0 Coil Gun Sprayer. All other hose end sprayers will dilute the house wash to much.

Spray shrubs with water so does not absorb bleach. Spray again to wash off after.

Fill bottle with pool chlorine and add about 4 oz of Dawn. Set dial to mix about 8 to 1 of mix.

You apply chemicals from the Bottom of the house first and then work your way up to the top. This is so it does not streak.

Then wait 10 - 15 minutes and rinse it off good. But when you rinse, you will Rinse from the Top of the house and move down. Works great. Let the chemical do the job. Not the pressure washer which takes to long.

Just use the pressure washer to help rinse it off quicker instead of a garden hose.

If using bleach you apply twice as much chemical. So we set the dail to put out 4 water to 1 of mix

If you dont like the bleach smell. Elemonator is a soap instead of Dawn. That also take care of about 75% of the smell. And is a little better cleaner to add to the bleach.

Also be careful mixing bleach with any ammonia based cleaner. You will be creating mustard gas.

I use the stuff for chem-ing the hottub. --64.246.xxx.xx

Thanks all for the tips.

I was planning to use a garden type sprayer like I use for my bug dope. I have a battery operated pressure washer that I can dump the hose into a five gallon bucket for areas with no outside water. The house I was going to test it on doesn't even have water service.

I bought a batch of liquid just because. I will try and give it a test run maybe next week on the storage house. --107.147.xx.xx

Tarheel beat me to it. Lowes sells a pump up garden sprayer approved for bleach. They also have a quart size sprayer by ZEP rated for bleach.

I would not leave liquid pool shock in anything. We pour it back into the original jug and rinse the sprayer.
