For inquiring minds following my first post, I cut an access port in the far end of the coat closet to gain access. The coat closet is oversized, normal depth but about 8 feet long so you have to go in the closet, turn, and go about 8 feet with a downsloping roof to get to the opening. The space isn't really that usable, under the landing it's less than 4 feet high and about 25 sqft and then another little area under the lower portion of the stairs that's partially blocked with framing. I will screw the sheetrock back in place so it doesn't get filled with tenant junk I will have to haul off.

And the contents of the two boxes? It looked to be the stuff a mother would save from her kids childhood. The wooden box was a toybox complete with 1960's vintage toys and stuffed animals that were well used, nothing valuable. The cardboard box had some paper art, other papers, birthday cards, and a couple of kids clothing articles. Since there's no real value here and they are stored in a space that is of no value otherwise, I will just leave them there. I'm also toying with adding my own items to this time capsule.

So, lets have some fun. What are some no-cost items you would put in a box that someone 50-100 years from now would get a kick out of finding.

Thank you for the update.

Some toys, even damaged, will have value to someone. Maybe an antique dealer.

You could leave automotive parts or articles.

Along the lines of NE, you could lay out some clothes and sprinkle dust in it and would really help if you had a fake skeleton to put in the clothes.

Maybe put an old Calander in there. An old CD or cassette tape of an 80's hair band. A VCR tape. You could just put a piece of notebook paper in there as they probably won't know what that is in a hundred years from now.

Even better, a book on witch craft, that will scare the hell out of them. --76.129.xxx.xx

Thanks for the update on what you found. Like others, I was thinking of a few newspapers. I always find it interesting to see what was in the news 100 years ago. And the ads are cool too. I was reading an old comic book the other day, and the advertisements were every bit as entertaining as the book. Who knew doctors recommended eating Baby Ruth candy bars because they were high in dextrose? --108.52.xxx.xxx

I have save all our office tech since my first $868 fax machine, every desk phone and cell phone, giant monitor, 3M copier with the pink thermal sheets...

When we built this place we had a small section in a wall that we all put a small item in.

Wife put a small Beetlejuice figure, I put a 5.56 round, one kid put an anime figure and I don't remember what the oldest put in there.

It was more for the family than for the future.

Ok, here’s what’s going in so far.

Ad from the grocery store

Ad from the hardware store

Local real estate magazine complete with prices

Newspaper

Non food items from lunch at wataburger

Some old dishes I was getting rid of

Some advertising stuff (coffee cups, folders, mouse pad, etc)

A dvd player, tube tv, cables, and some old movies that I hadn’t trashed from storage yet.

Some eclipse glasses I got for free from the local cable company.

Some old light fixtures I took down

My last pack of 60 watt filament light bulbs

A couple of CFL bulbs

An old iPhone 6

A Texas Rangers World Series pennant

A printout of the rental add for this place

A printout of this thread

And finally, a realistic looking snake in the top of the box with a thread hooked to the lid for NE

Last chance to make suggestions
