Busy, I saw you mention dementia in your post on training. I come from a long line of demented people...grampa, gramma, dad, aunt, cousin, we think my brother was on his way before he died from a sudden heart attack. Now my sister has been diagnosed with early AZ. She knows - she is still here but going super super fast. It's a nightmare of huge proportions as anyone who has ever loved a person going down this tunnel knows.

One sudden glimmer of hope is AI: it has been crawling random study databases world-wide, millions of them - not studies on AZ, all studies on everything basically - and correlating links between them...something a human or even many many humans could not possibly do, ever, as about 10,000 studies on almost any subject are published daily.

So...recently it was discovered that sildenafil had a 69% success rate in lessening symptoms of early dementia...And think about it: the drug has already been through safety trials, it's already on the market. It is not currently being USED for dementia, these details just came out by combing data from various OTHER studies.

Now to find a doctor who will prescribe it for my sister in the correct dosage...

I hope that it works for her.

When my mother was diagnosed with dementia the doc she had wanted to study her brain after she passed. Unfortunately the doc moved on to another hospital/organization and never followed up. --107.147.xx.xx

I saw that on the post as well. Busy, I wish your family well and to not need to worry about this affecting your husband.

I also can't help but wonder if there isn't some sort of drug that people might be taking that is causing this. Lots of people take medications. Mostly it is to treat symptoms. All medications have side effects, no exceptions. --76.129.xxx.xx

Thanks WMH, 6x6. I will keep the Slidenafil in mind. He's not been diagnosed, and would be early, early stages. But, his behavior has been changing.

WMH, so sorry your family has to go through this. It was tough on my husband's family with just his mom. Like your brother, hubby had a brother who might have been going that way, but had a couple of strokes, and finally a heart attack. He was also a heavy smoker.

6x6, I think you are close, but, maybe not quite. Perhaps some of the medications allow individuals to live long enough to get dementia, where otherwise they may have died of stroke or heart attack. My mother in law was diagnosed with high blood pressure in her very early years, took blood pressure medication from childhood on, yet she lived to age 84. Untreated, blood pressure as high as hers leads to stroke or heart attack. We all have to go of something, I suppose. --72.135.xxx.xx

I've read niacin, vitamin c and coconut oil work as well for prevention of dementia. I take all three with 100 mg of niacin with breakfast and 100 mg at dinner and got my blood pressure reduced to 106/73. --174.68.xx.xx

My mother died of dementia in 2022 after 12 years of living on my farm. The last 5 years were ugly, especially during covid when her friends stopped coming around and everyone was in masks and she could not understand. --216.23.xxx.xx

Covid would have been horrible for someone with dementia. Sorry your mom had to go through that Lana. --172.58.xxx.xxx
