Would you elaborate on the use of Methylene Blue for foul odors please.

Unfortunately, I don't know where you get it. I was a Surgical Service Specialist in the military , way back in the 80s. Whenever the docs had to do one particular procedure, the nurses would open a bottle of methylene blue, apply some to a towel, and leave it in the room to help mask the gag-inducing odors. I cannot recall, but, they may have applied a dab to our masks. Again, memory is fuzzy, that was so long ago. So, though I mentioned it, I don't know where to get it, if its readily available, and don't really know how much one would use. It is very strong smelling stuff, sort of minty. Peppermint oil, which might even be available at the grocery store, certainly at a health food store, would probably do nearly as good a job. And, odors in a rental home, even one that is abused, probably doesn't compare to the fetid smell of anaerobic infection around the bum. I grew up on a farm, smells don't generally bother me, but this did. I saw at least one resident surgeon leave the room to retch during these procedures.

And, of course, removing the materials imbedded with odors as quickly as one can is best. Though sometimes ya need a better smell to mask the odor. One house I rehabbed had a rusty smell throughout the house. When I had a new furnace put in, I also had all ductwork changed out. Turns out ductwork was the source of the odor. I had loaded all the scrap duct on my pickup, but didn't make it to the recycling center that day. The next day, as I approached the truck, the distinctly rusty odor emanated from the scrap. So, odd things can be source of smells.

I ran an ozone generator nightly at that house, which was very moldy as well, though, by the time I changed the furnace, mold was mostly removed/ cleaned/ gone. If you run an ozone generator, follow the advice Vee gave on this forum: plug it in to the outlet nearest the door you enter. I ran it on timer, but we'd had a power outage, so timer was off, ozone generator was running when i arrived in AM. I was able to quickly unplug the extension cord and get back out of the house. Ozone isn't good to breathe, so there needs to be time for the ozone to disperse before returning to the building . And I don't know if it can be used in an unoccupied apartment if other units in the building are occupied.

Good luck with yer stink, Rick!

No stink problem in a long time. I was a navy ophthalmic surgical tech almost 40 years ago so no smells from that end of the anatomy.

Have never heard of it in a very long time until you mentioned it. --174.238.xx.xx

Oh, I loved working in the eye room! One of my favorites was when a retired general with lots of 'stars upon thars' had cataract surgery. When surgeon was done, and moved the scope away, but before the patch was put on, the general exclaimed, " Oh, I can see! " He asked to see each of our faces before they put the patch on. He had tears of joy. Was neat to see how a tough guy was so moved by having sight restored! --72.135.xxx.xx

This appears to be used with aqualife and not obnoxiously expensive, dosage is unclear - the chemical makeup looks interesting, this nitreous oxide could be condensed from the exhaust gas of a 4stroke generator or lawn mower running on alcohol fuel, not an absorbant of the latent room gases but a way to temporarily numb the resporatory tract of the worker. --184.59.xxx.xx
