Just learned of this today. A father / son realtor team confronted an armed man inside one of their properties. The guy threatened to shoot or stab them. They held him at gunpoint for police.

We are seeing more multi - bad guy attacks across the board. Violence is increasing in many areas as people become more desperate. Be careful out there folks.

Now - lesson time folks - What SHOULD they have done?

Bingo, you get an "A"! They SHOULD have called the police FIRST and let them deal with it. This could have gone bad for them very fast had it escalated to a gunfight.

Where would be the excitement in simply calling the cops? I like it! --24.20.xxx.xxx

I felt my life was threatened in this scenario and could not see behind me while keeping eyes on this person threatening me, so I was unable to back out.

If they were aware of the situation while on the outside and chose to enter the house then yes, that would have been foolish. However, if they happened upon him while inside and the standoff happened immediately then I think they took unnecessary risks holding him at gunpoint. He could have killed them at anytime while waiting for police. While I would't call it foolish, I'd call it risky.

If he threatened them and showed the weapon, and the agent had to protect his child, then that leaves all options open. --108.69.xxx.xxx

Makes sense to check the outside of a place first before going in, for signs that someone has entered. Also leave lights on and maybe a radio when it's empty. --73.248.xxx.xxx

LTD,

Yikes!

I make a lot of noise before I enter a vacant building, banging on the door, taking my time with the key, crack tje door open and holler MAINTENANCE several time before I put my foot inside the door, allowing time any intruder to exit the rear door.

I agree, turn away (Run! A moving target is hard to hit!)

I’ll adjust my phrase “Wanna be right or alive?”

LLs need to let their ego and pride slide in favor of living.

Sounds like the realtor was armed.

LTD,

I finally got to my desktop to look at the link. That town is about an hour from me!

I was tickled by the reporter's advice from the realtor assoc when talking about realtors safety to "let the client go in first" - yeah, to meet the squatter head on first!

I'd love to hear your whole take on this.

Did the squatter truly have a weapon or just bluffing?

What's the difference between "drawing" your weapon vs "pointing" your weapon is such a situation?

Does the verbal threat "I'm gonna shoot or stab you" justify pointing a weapon?

Did the face punch justify defending with a weapon?

I don't know the guys in the video but the son did not impress me as the type to back down and call the police. He got close enough to be punched. I'll bet a milkshake the son approached with the intent to grab the guy and walk him out.
