Please bare with me...this should be so worthwhile.

So I know that many of you would regard this as off topic, but after considering it for quite some time I believe that we, as mostly older and middle aged folks, would find this very helpful not just in our business's day to day activities but to make our lives better and easier. Isn't that what we are here for after all?

Anyway, I wanted to share a few things that have helped me and my family tremendously as we have suffered from certain physical ailments and health concerns at times.

My thought here is that we can offer tips on what has helped and our families personally. Anything that has changed your life dramatically (or someone close to you) or made it so much better are fair game. I love the more natural cures without all the side effects of pharmaceuticals.

Note: I am not a medical doctor and this is not medical advice. Check with your doctor before implementing changes.

Here goes:

Ailment: Frequent urination and having to get up multiple times while trying to sleep (this may work much better for males, not sure).

Remedy: A dozen pumpkin seeds each evening. I shell them and sleep through the night now (spouse so happy she can sleep now, too).

Ailment: Severe knee and joint pain cause from breakdown of knee cartilage.

Remedy: Glucosamine and Chondroitin joint relief pills or liquid. I can now walk pain free again.

Ailment: Arthritis pain.

Remedy: Five or six gin-soaked raisins per day. Told my mom to try it. She claims it really helped her.

Ailment: Headache.

Remedy: Pinch webbing between thumb and index finger

Ailment: Lower back pain.

Remedy: Pressure point on back of hand where small bones come together between two smallest fingers

Please, if you have something worthwhile to add it just might change someone's life...and with the wealth of wisdom on this board this has tremendous potential to help everyone here. --24.20.xxx.xxx

DH and I have been taking Tai Chi for Arthritis and Fall Prevention and are loving it. Balance for both of us has increased measurably - the amount of time we can stand on one foot has increased considerably.

10 seconds is minimum; under 10 seconds you have a 100% chance of a fall. Over 10 you are good, over 30 you are golden. As aging adults, falls are scary things, so fall prevention is something to think about. We are both up to well over 30. In fact he can brush his teeth for two minutes with standing on one foot and then the other.

I recently started taking Berberine on the advice of a nurse friend. SHe is also a Type II diabetic. It dropped my blood sugar like a stone and I have been in the normal range now for weeks. Of course I combine that with a low-carb (under 20 grams per day)/no-grain diet but I've been doing that for *years* and still had higher blook sugars than I wanted. --50.82.xxx.xx

Quite a few years ago, I had bursitis in my left elbow. I went online to search for a remedy which I tried. I went to a grocery which handled natural foods and bought a quart of wild black cherry juice and drank all of it which is nasty tasting. However, within a day, the bursitis was gone.

It is always best to try natural before you try non-natural medications. --155.188.xxx.xx

Ailment: Stomach aches and unscheduled bowel movements.

Cause: Possible Soy Intolerance. (Soy is in most everything)

Remedy : Check the ingredients and remove from your

diet for one week, 100 %.

If ya go out to eat, ask about it. (Soy content)

Ya just might feel a whole lot better, without it.

Note: this (intolerance) did not show up in my blood test.

Ailment: drifting apart as a couple.

Made concerted effort to pursue more intimacy, bought some outfits, read some things. Made a concerted effort. Told him things he needed to do to help me want him. Things like not letting friends keep contacting me all the time for our get-togethers, step in and get them to include the husbands in the decision making. Stop telling jokes about some of the dumb things I do. (Y’all know there is plenty of dumb stuff I do.) Give me Credit for all of the years and years of effort I put into our kids, even though it meant I made way less income.

All of this effort has given us a solid, very fun relationship. He is now proud of me, and I feel safe with him ( never an issue of violence, but of just him not ‘having my back’.) our marriage is better than ever , intimacy is fun. (Y’all can go soak your eyeballs now. The thought of two very chubby fifty somethings getting busy! Hope I didn’t scar anybody)

Our mental health is very improved for both of us.

I think we’re going to need to look for some Tai-chi classes. That sounds like fun. --70.92.xxx.xxx

Get the two pneumonia shots. I have not had bronchitis since I had the first one and I have the second one now also. My mother passed at 94 of brain shrinkage and never had bronchitis again and I thought sure that was what would kill her.

Don't touch your face after touching a bird feeder. I just had a cancer removed from the exact spot where I put my thumb to adjust my mask while filling bird feeders. Dermatologist said it's from sun but this can NOT be a coincidence. It has to be a virus on the bird feeder. No sun hits that spot due to masks, sunglasses etc.

An apple a day works wonders. I buy the Gala variety.

Hamburgers will make you fat due to the 5ive ten and fifteen percent fat included. Get a sirloin steak and eat a piece instead.

Take vitamin D, cholecalciferol in winter or cloudy areas. It helps produce adrenalin and you will feel much better fast.

Fifty percent of table salt does not have iodine in it anymore. You must have this for your thyroid if you don't eat fish. Low thyroid means low energy. I did this and feel fifty percent better.

Lie down and nap when your body tells you to. Your heart needs that.

And now from a medical intuitive that I paid for a consult: Take buffered vitamin c for the immune system. I have not tried that yet.

Cayenne pepper can heal a wound and if you can eat pepper, eat it occasionally.

Add boron to your list of vitamins for strong bones.

Have a bottle of apple cider vinegar in your fridge. If your sinuses act up, inhale the smell from the bottle. This did help me.

Brush and floss your teeth with baking soda with a drop of medicinal peroxide on the brush. Flossing that down in around your teeth kills the anaerobic bacteria that live there and cause gum disease. This was also in Reader's Digest in 1986 and I have been doing it since then and no bum disease. Medical intuitive says to add sea salt and charcoal powder but I have not tried that yet.

The medical intuitive said to add sodium borate to brushing teeth but I haven't done that. He mentioned Borax but I can't quite do that and don't seem to have to.

I was told when recovering from surgery to take six deep breaths at least once every hour. I recommend that and it makes me feel better and seems to become a habit for awhile which is good.

OK, my secret to good health... Don't get sick.

And if you do, "Oxy" is the answer! ;)

OK, I'm being silly.

My mother was friends with Dr. Weil and other nutritionists. We try to eat right. Very little red meat, I eat maybe two burgers a month, mostly on trips. Can't remember the last steak, probably 3 yrs ago. Pasta a few times a year, lots of fish - a little chicken. Lots of veggies. Low fat mediterranean diet. Virtually no fast food. I'm not a fanatic about nutrition but I try.

And the result, I had a CT Scan a few weeks ago for my cancer follow up. At 62 I have no arterial build up. So if the cancer doesn't come back at least I won't have a heart attack anytime soon! :)

Since my cancer surgery I've been trying to get out in the wildlands more. We just climbed a mountain weekend before last and hiked 4 miles to some "secret" petroglyphs last Saturday. We are going to do "Angels Flight" in Zion in May. (I hope.) Google it, it's a major bucket list hike.

I still have a lot of stresses in my life, hopefully by this time next year most of those will be solved. I didn't realize how stressful my business and dealing with tenants had been. Since I retired and more so since surgery I like to go to a place I know where the ancient indians lived, and I can sit and listen to the wind and sounds of the desert and get in touch with my soul again.

I think the key to good health is stress removal. We (humans) weren't meant to live as we do. I forgot that in my chase for more money. Now that I have more money than I ever dreamed of, I lost my health. I'm trying to get that back. Sometimes even I have to be reminded to - "Live Your Dream!"

I've been eating a handful of nuts or seeds for lunch for the last 6 months instead of sandwiches and chips. For whatever reason nuts and seeds seem to keep me from getting hungry like other things I've tried. I've lost about 40 pounds and feel great.

Lower weight has it's own benefits, I sleep better, don't snore, and have more energy than I've had in 30 years. --50.26.xx.xxx

Several years ago I notice my wife always seemed to be complaining about headaches. She also was gradually began snoring and it was not a quiet snore. She started gaining weight (but never knew why at the time).

Flash forward 20 years. I decided I wanted her to see someone besides her physician about some of these and other issues that she was complaining about. I found a homeopath/naturopath that seemed to have the qualifications I was looking for. Well, she wasn't of a tremendous help in everything, but one thing she quickly discovered was that my wife was allergic to cow's milk, specifically.

She cut that out of her diet completely and almost immediately quit snoring. Within three months she had lost all of the weight she had gained since we had met nearly 30 years earlier (50 pounds). She is also feeling much less tired during the days and sleeps about two hours less per night despite feeling more rested than she did before.

I felt so bad for her. She spent 20 years suffering needlessly because we didn't realize that she had developed a destructive allergy. --24.20.xxx.xxx

JB , I loved milk, had to give it up to help the sinuses and snoring. Big difference. Haven’t given up all dairy though, still eat cheese, occasional ice cream, still have some sinus issues. Has your wife given up everything dairy, or just milk? I think I’ll look for almond cheeses. I’ve had those before, not bad. --70.92.xxx.xxx

Hey Busy. My wife has been very good about avoiding all cow dairy. She can have anything like goat cheese or almond or coconut milk so she has been getting by pretty good considering such a big change (she was a huge cheese lover).

She just ate her first pizza (last Friday) in nearly two years. We ordered a take and bake peperoni from the local and requested with no cheese on half. She added Manchego and Chevre at home and loved it. She was so happy to eat pizza again. We might just have to restart pizza into our weekly routine again. --24.20.xxx.xxx

Ailment(s): various

Remedy: massage chair

We have two full-body massage chairs (the kind you put your electric bill on autopay for). Just as a toilet is required, I believe every home should have at least one massage chair. Perfect stress relief. 10 years ago after 3 heinous surgeries I couldn't walk for a year. That chair helped me recover better than anything Western or Eastern medicine did; 10 years later it is still doing a great job. Last year I treated myself to another brand that also does full body stretching and killer foot and leg massages.

Every day one or both of those chairs gets a workout. Knowing I can have a massage for as long as I want any time of the day or night was worth every penny and these chairs have paid for themselves over and over again in health benefits and relief. They also do the 'heavy lifting' for my husband and me when we just don't have the energy to massage each other. He's still the best bet for a good scalp massage, though!

And btw, those flexible wire 'scalp massagers' at the Dollar Store for a buck or 2 for $2.00 like here...WOW!:
