Every time I get an apartment back, the first thing I do is look under the sink. If it is loaded up with abandoned cleaning supplies then I know the place is going to be a mess. Got one back today and under the sink was bare. I was thrilled!!! As always , no cleaning supplies proved the place was spotless. Most common one left behind is Clorox but I understand why somebody wouldn’t want to travel with bleach. I have at least a dozen Swiffer dusters and I have never bought any of them.

Were any of the dusters ever used? LOL
I used to leave a welcome set for new tenants with a roll of tp, dish soap, dishwasher soap, a new toilet brush, plunger and cleaner and fly swatter.
More often than not I'd find filthy toilets and unused cleaning supplies on move out. I think they actually don't know what to do with the stuff. The only thing always used was the dishwasher soap. --47.216.xx.xxx |

I have added to my "Ready to Occupy" move-out checklist "No one wants your used cleaning supplies! Take them with you!" --50.82.xxx.xx |

Chlorine bleach has a shelf life of about a year. --108.4.xxx.xx |

I want their used cleaning supplies (more accurately, "opened cleaning supplies," as the used portion is gone. A dollar saved in my town is like $2 earned, when you consider how much you have to earn to keep a dollar, plus sales taxes.

I like getting their leftover cleaning supplies.
Didn't know bleach had a shelf life. --70.92.xx.xx |

OMG. I know exactly what you mean by cleaning supplies left behind vs. Condition of the unit. I often wonder if by leaving cleaning supplies behind it justified leaving a dirty unit in their minds, as if somehow we are now even? --68.107.xxx.x |

I’m not complaining about the abandoned cleaning supplies. I’ve got shelves full, I never need to buy them. It’s like Christmas sometimes. Besides, kids get paid from tenants SD to clean the place. Another thing they always leave- plants. My living room is starting to look a bit like a jungle. Although I do throw out any suspicious looking plants. I know it’s legal here now but I don’t want any part of that. --71.10.xxx.xxx |

Speaking of plants, I once evicted a failed marijuana growing operation. I took home a bunch of potting soil to add to my garden. Guess what sprouted in my garden... --68.107.xxx.x |

Last one who did that, I told my cleaning lady she could have it all - she was very happy! She also happily took the other items left in the kitchen cabinets: Ramen noodles, nuts, candy, paper plates/cups. It was her bonus --68.10.xxx.x |

The abandon item that surprises me the most is family pictures & mementoes that some tenants leave behind. These unlike the clothes, furniture, cleaning products, electronics, etc can't be replaced. When I first started out I would always call & make an attempt to get them back to the tenants. Now I figure if they really cared about them or wanted them, these things never would have been left behind. --96.237.xx.xx |

Now with air bnb the leftover cleaning stuff has a landing spot away from home, used to use some of this at the cottage to clean a boat. Great bonus.

Chlorine bleach has a short life. The stronger it is, the faster it degrades. Household bleach is typically 5 percent and fairly stable, but it will still degrade. No need to throw it away, just use it. --173.233.xxx.xx |

When tenants leave dangerous household chemicals behind, I place each item in a zip lock bag, put them in a cardboard box and take them to my City's Sponsored Chemical Round-Up drop off location. No cost to landlords or anyone.
When tenants leave superscription drugs behind, I get permission from my local police department to drop them off. Then when I return, half of the time the Police want to arrest me to transportation and possession of controlled superscription substances. So now I put the drugs in an sealed metal box and add them to the weekly trash pick up.....No good deed goes unpunished, at least in Los Angeles.

I love Clorox, their products and their stock. It has been one of the best performers in our portfolio. My only complaint is it has been so long since it has had a stock split!
They also have cute commercials. --71.219.xx.xxx |
