Looking for some recommendations for an umbrella policy for my rentals. Is there a company that will do one without having my residence insured with them? Thanks

For a while I had an umbrella with an company that only carried the umbrella, not my personal which was also different from the company that covered my rentals. So yes they are out there. Currently my personal company is carrying my umbrella while the rentals under under other companies.

Why are you specifically looking for another company? See an independent agent that represents many companies and can shop around for you. Maybe they can find better prices on personal and rental insurance too. --108.4.xxx.xx

We have an umbrella policy that names our LLC and both my wife and I as insured parties thru USAA. A person must have some kind of family military connection to join or be a current or retired member of the armed forces, though. Also, they require that we max out our liability policies on all others that we have with them: auto and homeowners.

We use Shelter for our rental hazard policies, and they carry $300,000 liability per location. That's pretty good coverage even without an umbrella. We carry the umbrella because it's cheap. $300/year for $1 million. I mention this so that in case you can't get an umbrella, you should try maxing out your individual policy liability. Costs more, but the coverage is still relatively cheap. I think per unit we pay about $29/year for that $300K in coverage. --173.20.xxx.xxx

I use US liability Insurance Company.

Generic name. Knock on wood, I haven't had to use them yet so I can't tell you how effective they are --72.23.xxx.xx
