RE: 6" European Style Tub & Shower Mixer

It has been over a decade since I began using this type of shower diverter. Wherever I have remodeled a bathroom I've installed one of these.

If you search, and find pictures, you can imagine just how easy a repair is. The whole set cost about $30 to $40 bucks.

I had three fail and all three resulted in about a five minute repair. I exchanged them in that five minutes.

One failed because I left one with water in it over the winter and it split the fixture.

Another failed because the tenants yanked on the shower hose and broke off the plastic piece.

There was another which did something odd..I don't remember what but I simply swapped in another.

I recently took the three, and made one out of them to keep with the other spares.

When not using these, I try to use Moen diverters so replacement parts fit more than one bathroom.

Just wanted to share.

Maybe I misunderstood.

But do a goggle search and the prices range from 100.00 and go up.

Plus it seems like you have had more maintenance and failures compared to a normal tub/shower faucet setup. --73.152.xx.xxx

I paid less because I shopped around. I bought maybe ...well a bunch at a time.

These failures were from different homes. Only one was actually a failure, the other two were neglect.

The majority of them have been working flawlessly since they were installed.

I enjoy the ideas I pick up through travel. Like ceramic tile base. I use regular tile, then take a rounded knife and make a concave drywall turn over the raw tile edge. This way you paint the wall down onto the tile - wipe the tile and it looks well finished.

Kind of like when in Florida you use a marble window sill and drywall returns. --96.241.xx.xx

all the existing bath tubs here already have a spout. So if I were to replace the diverter, I'd also have to remove the existing spout and have to cover up the hole?

also, in all my houses, the other side of the diverter is an access panel in a bedroom or closet so it's easily accessible for repairs (no cutting up drywall) --199.247.xx.xx

Yes, all true.

I install these when I completely remodel.

It is a one size fits all set up for me. I bought the same model. I still have many old diverters but I spend time changing washers. It takes tools and time to even change a washer.

This system I use one tool, a pair of channel locks (Mine are Snap-On0

It is a kin to Landlord Locks, where you simply walk up and change out the lock in a fraction of the time it used to take.

It is all very interesting to me. I wish there were showers and tubs which were not built into the walls. Would it not be nice to be able to replace a shower/tub with ease the way we replace a vanity and base?
