Section 8 want's me to add a bath fan to bathroom in a mobile home.

I don't want to drill through roof--leaks. The shower wall is only exterior wall. I want to install the fan on the top of the shower wall--so electrician drills out the side wall.

Can electrician place the fan in the top of the shower wall?

How thick or deep is that wall? Standard bath exhaust fans are intended to be mounted between 2 ceiling studs or any studs that will the fan in place. In older MH's, the walls are approx. 3 inches thick and may be enough to hold your fan in place. --68.63.xxx.xxx

Is there a window in the Bathroom?

Code down here, if a window is present, no fan 'required'.

I would think that the real question is how deep are the trusses/roofing system.

Don't get me wrong I am a firm believer in Exhaust fans, even with windows. Especially, in our rentals. You/Tenant never cleans, filthy, then they want to scream "MOLD" to get out of the rent and break the lease. --205.223.xxx.xx

The side mount is safer thinking water and wind, the wiring will prolly have to be in plastic wiremold from the light so they go off/on together.

Suppose the inspector is the only one who can tell you if unit will pass and this is acceptable. My mobile homes don't have fans but they do have windows. I've even see windows above the shower walls and before ceiling on outside walls. Any chance there is a long horizontal window up there...maybe got covered up during a remodel? Can you ask at the mobile home supply place? --99.203.xx.xx

The walls are very thin I don't think a standard fan would fit. yes when they remodeled they covered the windows on the interior

I hear the walls are very thin...….(sorry),

Try a solar powered roof vent, Amazon and others sell them. No electrician needed, just cut a hole and install. You just need it to work once for the inspection.

Another thought is get a power vent for RV's. It's 12 volt, just run a wire down the outside wall and connect to a small car battery. --99.104.xxx.xx

Might be easier/cheaper to open that window back up. All you are trying to do is pass a suc8 inspection, right?

Our local MH supply carries that specialty long skinny window for about $50. --173.233.xxx.xxx

A really good excuse to not accept Section 8.

Sorry, it won't pass inspection because there is no bathroom fan and no way to install one. --98.146.xxx.xxx
