In my view there is no ONE rock star real state investor. Each has strengths and weaknesses. I think that's what's awesome about things like this forum and the Mr. LL Convention: tons of perspectives. Take what I like, leave the rest.

But just for fun I'll play along...

I'd say probably Donald Trump. The guy is amazing, and he succeeded (and failed and succeeded again and failed again and succeeded again)... his persistence is incredible. I've read "The Art of The Deal" and need to read "The Art of the Comeback."

One of my biggest 'fears' is failure. To have to face my wife/family/friends and know that I screwed up and lost a ton of money. "The Don" has overcome failure a dozen times, at least. The man has grit and determination, and he's not shy about demanding what he wants. Put all of his personality flaws and quirks aside, and to me he's the consummate real estate investor. He's done all this in one of the most difficult locations to be successful and overcame incredible odds.

Other "big time" investors like Cardone just don't resound with me for some reason.

The other person (and I know this is going to sound brown-nosey...tough!) is Mr. Jeffrey Taylor. If I could pick his brain one-on-one for a couple of hours about how he got started, how he grew, etc., that would be extremely cool. He's not only a great REI, but just a great businessman in general, and I enjoy seeing what he's built here and hearing his stories. If he's got a book that covers all that, I'll buy it today! --173.20.xxx.xxx

Through several of my larger Real Estate Brokers, like Marcus & Millichap, I was invisted to a private affairs to listen to very successful Real Estate Investors. I also went to several Apartment Expo's and sat in on many Real Estate Investors seminars. I even stayed after their presentation and had long conversations, exchanged phone numbers and met with them afterwards.

One time I met two dream successful persons in the real estate game who clued me in on the up and coming "decline" to to the mortgage melt down. They advised to dispose of our "worst" properties, because at that time anyone could qualify for a mortgage.

A couple of years later one of them asked me if I took their advice, since most investors don't take the time to "learn", "investigate" and "act". I told him that I listed to his advice, confirmed he was spot on and sold three apartment apartment buildings -- ror millions of dollars in profit. The market dropped around 40% from their highs and mortgages were now hard to come by.

My mom used to say-- "you don't have a pot to P*** in or a window to through it out of"!

With 63 SFH's -- we are kicking it back. I have one time full employee and a database of 50 names of people who will come at a moments notice to work.

I was 17 at the time I enlisted -- 1968 waiting to go into the Navy. Could NOT go to college, although I had scholarship offers for football, my school principal and the athletic director said "I wasn't college material" and refused to send in my school records or athletic file. (gee thanks to you two so much)

If you think of it-- the way I do anyway-- it was like a death sentence. Here's why. This was 1968 and the draft was in full swing for Vietnam. If you didn't go to college you got drafted. I'm sure some remember that. So I thought I'd beat the game and enlist. Spent 4 of the best years of my life in Norfolk VA. --99.103.xxx.xxx

Honestly, I feel like I have that opportunity here on the forum on a daily basis. Everyone has their own knowledge base, and even a newbie might have a nugget of wisdom (or cautionary tale!) to share.

Likewise, everyone has their niche: selling HUD homes purchased half-off through lease options, mobile homes, assisted-living facilities, storage units...and as soon as they develop that niche, they develop a course that they sell to anyone else interested! I like the free advice I pick up here. :) --204.210.xxx.xxx

I've had meals and shared conversations with many folks here on the forum. Possibly imbibed a little as well. Several with some!

From the forum, I'd love to grab lunch with Cimba and MYOB.

Cimba, because I believe he's crushing where he lives and I would love to see how he provides himself with so much inventory (leads) to purchase.

MYOB would have to be a drive thru lunch and eat in the car. I'd love to drive around with him and see his operation and the inner workings of his office. (Provided he would share that.)

For as much as I am befuddled by Moshe's posts and responses, I would like to have lunch with him/her to understand her/her perspective. I beleive it would be good.

Chris CT, cuz he has a lot to share in the posts he seldom makes and RB-MI because I have a feeling I'd laugh my a$$ off the whole time. That would be entertaining.

As far as the bigger picture, I've been listening to cassette tapes of the bluejeans millionaire lately. I don't know who did them, but the content is excellent and I would love to have lunch with that person.

I would also like to have lunch with Robert Kiyosaki. Not so much to pick his brain, as I would to just say thank you. He was imperative in my getting started on all of this. --174.201.xx.xxx

After doing this for over 30 years I can honestly say if your posting here your a star in my book. I've seen many come to the top and seen many -- go belly up. You all would probable be shocked at how many "RE Big Time" book writting STARS have gone feet to the sky. Would you be surprised if you heard the likes of ?????? Alle*?

WMC You can't just look at Thrump and those B/K's. Many others do and did the same. The company I worked for-- a big player in flying people in Atlanta declared B/K. I only mention them because i worked there.

When faced with a possibility of losing my company in 2011 I had to face the fact that BK was right around the corner. If I didn't do it Icould lose the whole company. I lost 8 property's but saved the other 70. Think you have to be in the other persons shoes. Letting those 8 go back to the bank saved us. --99.103.xxx.xxx

Lunch! Did someone say LUNCH!!???

When I travel I try and find someone from this board to met up with. So far the folks here are my favor to lunch with. Besides my Missouri lunch buddies, I had fun networking with RathdrumGal and Still Learning on my last two trips. I love the grass roots, real people exchange, very practical and useful for my everyday dealings. When in Kansas City I always look up Carolyn. Few upcoming trips for 2019 and I'll post to see who's in that area. And if you ever travel to St. Louis or thru St. Louis let me know! CJ and MikeS are usually available to lunch. Who are the big gurus in the RE world now??? Suppose any host from Shark Tank would be interesting. Suppose The President of the USA would be an interesting luncheon event. NE you are always interesting. Performers in the entertainment world who manage to keep it together, Taylor Swift would be an interesting luncheon person. Karen Carpenter, if she was alive. Richard Flint, he would be a blast! --184.206.xxx.xxx

Definitely Cimba purely for the entertainment value. I've been lurking and posting occasionally since I was in college (circa 2002). I learned a lot of what I know here. There is always excellent advice from knowledgeable and experienced landlords. This website is definitely a big part of my own personal success.

I think our market in Pittsburgh is VERY similar to what Cimba has. Dime a dozen deals that need some lipstick (minor cosmetics) and cash flow like crazy. I purchased 3 in the last 3 weeks. 4 Bedroom house for $42K, already rented for $900. 2 bedroom house for $26K that will rent for $750 and another 2 bedroom for $23K that will also rent for $750. Most of our remodels take less than 2 weeks. Usually some new flooring, paint, and some minor repairs.

Who wants to come to Pittsburgh? I'll show you around. I cracked 100 units this year. Currently no vacancies. It's still fun! --73.40.xxx.xxx

Some of the greatest ideas come from new landords and my mind is expanded by listening to people from other states, other styles, etc.

i “work” the Convention by making a point to spend at least little time with certain people. Then I LOVE when we have 15 people at a table for supper!
