Bought myself a new washer. Old one still works, but it's been repaired twice and I felt like getting a new one. Because I can.

I put the old one on CL. It's nine years old and still works fine. Asking $150 for what was a $1200 washer. I don't think that's unreasonable. It's 5 cf so capacity is great for larger items or a family. Got a text asking if I'd take $50 for it. I declined. Then I got the sob story "all I have is $80". I responded that I was sorry that my item did not fit their budget, and that I was firm on the $150. I got back "lol, good luck with that". I could have let it go, but I had to respond with Good luck getting a working washer for $50. Their final response was "go f...yourself". All I could think was, this is someone's nightmare tenant. --161.11.xxx.xxx

Had the person come to look at it, and offered that amount, I might have taken it. But I hate those that make offers without looking or being there counting the cash in front of me. But at least you know you made the right decision when you got their last response.

They were likely trying to get it cheap just to resell it.

I get those types a lot too. Even on the amounts of rent. If the house is not a strong B or better property, they want it for like $100 a month then curse you when you won't drop the rent. --23.121.xx.xxx

Lots of scams on those types of issues...although that's not what yours was.

We advertise for sale items and get text messages us telling us they'll send a money order or wire money and have their "carrier" pick up the items.

The money order will bounce. We demand an in-person pickup when we suspect such things, and will only accept cash or certified check. --99.92.xxx.xxx

We got a similar story as a Hoosier. Want to sell something for $200. A person contacted and asked for the address. We give P. O. Box number. Couple of days later we got a check for more than a thousand. Contacted buyer and pointed to the mistake. Buyer told us that he is not in a country, but someone from the moving company will take the item and will need to keep our $200 and give the rest of the cash because buyer need to pay them too.

Look like they have a budget to spend on the possible deals because the check was coming in a certified mail envelope. --74.90.xx.xxx

Libi NY that is a scam. The check is worthless. You cash it and give 800 to someone and then the bank finds out it's a fake check and they take your money and you are out all that money and the item. --73.248.xxx.xxx

Libi, AllyM is correct. What you described is a version of something called the Nigerian Scam. Do not even reply. it is a total hoax and scam. --108.87.xx.xxx

Yesterday need washer for rental . went to usual repaired appliance guys and they wanted $225 for a repaired unit.

Went back to Craigslist and all are in the hundreds. Found a guy 1 hour away that had a great clean one for $75.

Drove down immediately and he said 6 people had already called since we agreed.

I dont see any bargains , but I did get the only bargain out there

after my appliance guy fixes the broken washer I will have a complete suit of appliances in storage --73.182.xxx.xxx

I sell a lot of stuff on craigslist and often run into the 'low-baller' who offers half (or less) of what I'm asking. And they always say 'cash' as though I'd accept anything else.

I usually respond with 'sure, but I get to keep the (choose some major part of the item). For example, if it's a car, I'll respond, 'sure, but I get to keep the engine'.

It sends the message I want to send and I never get any smart-a$$ responses back. --159.145.xxx.xx

Do you have a rental that could use a used washer? Sell it to an existing tenant for $100 if they extend the lease another year.

You are in the business of renting places not selling appliances. --72.23.xxx.xx
