Interesting article on Drudge. NYC mayor seeks to seize property of landlords ... blah, blah ,blah.

Should generate a bit of conversation.

As crazy as it seems, it might actually pass there.

If I had property there, I would be thinking about this.

If it gains ground in other areas I'd also be thinking about what it means.

Could they actually think they can just take our property if we don't follow whatever rules they decide on today. Or new rules they make up tomorrow? Or the day after?

Seems their objective is to own and control all rentals through this via their nonprofits run by the them and likely their friends and relatives.

if they did that I'd sell out and move my investments somewhere else. --23.121.xx.xxx

The reason for rent control or rent stabilization as it is called is not to control rent but bankrupt private sector rental housing providers then the government becomes the sole provider of all rental units with absolutely no rent control. So expropriation is nothing new. After the Bolshevik revolution the concept of someone making a profit for producing food was unacceptable. So the Bolsheviks set low prices so the Kulaks or Russian farmers could not exist then there was collective farms which did not product enough food. In theory non-profit sounds good but in reality there are many problems with non-profit rental housing in Ontario or Canada. One building had no hot water for over two months where the tenants had to endure as the building inspectors turn away. One tenant found out that he had to pay a 45 per cent increase or leave as government owned rental units are exempt from rent control. --147.194.xxx.xx

Signs of the times... I would not want to own rental property anywhere where more than 50% of the voters are tenants. Landlords make easy targets for politicians looking to buy votes. --98.146.xxx.xxx

I found this tid-bit interesting....

"It's worth noting that the worst landlord in New York isn't even a private landowner. In December, then-NYC Public Advocate Letitia James, who's since been sworn in as attorney general of New York State, put the city's own housing authority at the top of her "2018 NYC Landlord Watchlist."

As if we needed someone to tell us this. Drive around your city if you have Govt owned housing. Take a look. Talk to the folks who live there. Most of them are trying to get a Sec 8 voucher so they can get out of "the projects" ASAP.

Govt workers, lacking profit motive, has no incentive to maintain housing properly or to screen tenants. --173.20.xxx.xxx

I own property in an area where more than fifty percent of the voters are Democrats so all the elected officials are also. That's the problem in NJ and why we are going to be a sanctuary state. It's not the tenants because most don't vote. It's the residents who vote for the wwrong party and all the Dems want is more money to play with and buy votes. --73.248.xxx.xxx

How ironic that a ll list is complaining that renter dominated areas are against lls. What a catch 22. You can't be a ll n Not rent to tenants. NYC like China has been plotting to put housing authority land in private hands for 20 years. Letting it run down is part of the equation. Don't let bills 'politics'

Fool you. Since he was a school board member he has only been in it for himself. The math is simple re developers = money he will fuel his future ambitions this way. The other stuff is a diversion that plays well. --66.87.xxx.x

In our state they passed several blight bills that allow non-profits and communities seize property. They are proving hard to enforce as judges are still worried about private property rights. - at least for now --72.23.xxx.xx
