Showed one of my small studios to nice woman, says she is 66 but she looks 50. Says her mother died recently and her family is in disarray and fighting over the inheritance. She needs to move closer to stay more in touch with the process. Retired, can prove ability to pay with bank statements, she says. Seemed a little emotional but not crazy.
Send her a link to my online app and she filles it out. In the meantime I get a better prospect so I withdraw the background check link. She notices and says, "Is it because of Malek? If it's Malek, just text me that one word and I'll know!"
Who is Malek? Her previous landlord. She tells me a whole crazy story about the crazy evil multilmillionaire landlord whom I have not even contacted yet - and now don't need to LOL!
Also, she was born in 1960 which is younger than me, NOT 66 and certainly not past retirement age...weird item to lie about and then put the truth in her application.
She even ends her email, "Oh I have stories to tell!"

Wow, crazy lady! I once also had a crazy that couldn't get her story straight. It's always advisable to take down notes, on one's trusty day planer. I once had a single lady who asked if it was OK to wait a week to give me the application (I think she either needed to think about renting the property or needed that week to come up with the $30 screening fee...not a good sign).
I said yes but until someone was screened, approved and a lease was signed (and security deposit/rent was provided), the unit would continue to be shown.
By the time she got back to me I had already rented the little house.
When I told her she got all upset saying we were now best buddies(!!!) and I had disappointed her by renting it out from under her.
She then sent me a bunch of those "I'm so hurt but I'll hold my head up high and go on with my life, blah, blah, blah,blah" postings until I finally just banned her emails and blocked her phone number.
I guess she was a bit of a needy person who needed to see a landlord as a friend. No thanks!

Sounds like you dodged a whole lotta drama, at the very least.
As far as being born in 1960 is too young for retirement, I was born in 1964 and will be retired in three years when I'm 57 with 37 years at my day job. Not actually retired as in sit around and play canasta all day, but no more 9-5. I COULD retire next year at 55, but my long term plan is to wait a bit. --161.11.xxx.xxx |

Too young to be retired on SS, I meant. Somehow she made it sound as if she was RETIRED-retired, not just not working a day job. At 66, that is possible. At 60, not so much.
