Two-story hundred-year-old house with a second floor bathroom is having poor water pressure throughout the bathroom. PEX is in the house. Plumber was contacted swapped out a PEX pipe for a metal pipe behind the shower to make it more sturdy. Still an issue with water pressure. Tested at the entrance of the home and was told it hits 60 PSI but then it drops off. I'm not sure what's normal but I really can't entertain the plumber coming back out several more times if there's a possible easy fix that is being overlooked or even a better direction to discuss the problem. The plumber did say the hot water tank could have particles in it that are clogging however if that was the case that would be expected in the kitchen as well I would think. Any opinions --74.141.xx.xx |

60 psi coming into the house is acceptable. 50 to 80 psi is normal.
Q 1: Do you have a pressure reducing valve at the point of entry to the house - whether outdoor or indoor?
Q 2: Where in the second floor bathroom do you have low pressure? the tub/shower, the sink - hot or cold, or the toilet?
Q 3: How is the pressure in the kitchen and the rest of the house?
Q 4: Did the plumber check any aerators? angle stops? supply connectors?

Low pressure is going to the entire bathroom on the second floor. Kitchen on the first floor pressure is just fine.
Unsure of the other answers. I will bring up to the handyman. Thank you very much --74.141.xx.xx |

When did you notice the lack of pressure?
Do you know what the entrance pressure was before the switch to Pex?
What's changed since then?
Why & when did you switch to Pex?
Are the Pex lines supplying the 2nd floor bath home runs or are they tapped off of other lines?
What size Pex lines were used?
Were fittings or bend supports used to make turns?
Was anything changed other than the metal to Pex?
What type of stops if any were used?
Was the whole system flushed out as during the switch to Pex?
Have you done a pressure check on the 2nd floor?
Do you actually mean water volume & not pressure?
These are the kinds of questions I ask to help determine the problem.

Pressure switch maybe? I'm not a plumber or have any plumbing skills but we switched that out at my last house on a well and it fixed the problem. --71.210.xx.xxx |

Jen are you talking about poor water PRESSURE or possibly poor water FLOW?
Often they have different causes, and therefore different solutions.
Anyway, your "Tested at the entrance of the home and was told it hits 60 PSI but then it drops off." makes me think the problem lies upstream of the home (i.e. the water supply before it enters the home) so maybe you need to contact the water utility? --174.21.xxx.xxx |

From contractor:
So the difference between pressure and volume is pressure is what the city controls into the house and volume is what is consumed at the faucets and such ours is definitely a pressure drop cause it's immediately after the water main and starts running good till another item is turned on
It is all fittings no bend supports
Believed to be all pex --74.141.xx.xx |

So I asked further if all worked well in 2nd story bathroom and was told
Yes except that stupid faucet on in the tub everything else works good till another is turned on --74.141.xx.xx |

So if one faucet flows fine until you open the second, that is a flow problem. Either the meter is too small, or the pex is too small, or either the meter or house shutoff is partially closed or blocked, or the meter to the house run is internally corroded (clogged). We will presume the pex is adequately sized. Is the pex a home run manifold install or trunk-and-branch? --174.21.xxx.xxx |

"Yes except that stupid faucet on in the tub everything else works good till another is turned on" sounds like the Pex line is too small for the number of fixtures it's supplies. --96.237.xx.xx |

Pressure is "good then drops off" is a partial blockage/restriction in one of the lines. Either a partial blockage or an undersized line.
