With the discussions here about trying new methods of doing things vs old school stuff, my wife and I are carrying that over to food cooking. We are ordering a few meals ahead of time from a company who mails you the items to cook the certain recipes. The one we went with is called Hello Fresh. It's not TV dinner frozen type stuff, it's actually fresh food. Recipes provided. They put the whole package together and shop it to you. I have a culinary arts degree, so I'm not worried about being able to do it, but I think the idea is really neat.

We tend to fall into a cooking rut here at home similar to what landlords do. We don't try anything new and we go with what we know. Spaghetti and meatballs. Burgers and fries, eggs and bacon, whatever it may be. To step it up a little, we have to think a little different and be open to some new foods. Also to some recipes we wouldn't even think to try. I'll try anything. My wife will not!

Same thing with lockboxes, incentives, screening automation, and on and on. Some stay with one way and NEVER CHANGE! How many times can you eat Grandmas porketta? Some things don't need to change, but new things certainly need to be tried. --50.107.xxx.xxx

DH has been tempted by things like Blue Apron, Hello Fresh, and the other meal kit services. I've got an EveryPlate mailer sitting on my desk that I need to throw away. But since we've cut back on grains and sugars--- I hear Green Chef is keto-friendly. (They're also paleo-friendly, vegan-friendly, pescatarian-friendly...)

I might get him a trial for Christmas... --96.46.xxx.xx

We started using Sun Basket about a year ago. It is another meal kit service, and their try to use organic when possible.

We like the variety. WE've tried many meals we never would have, and it helps to avoid a rut. Also, because the food is in the house, we find ourselves eating more healthy. --64.251.xxx.xxx

NE of PA, there are many different prepackaged meals and some of them taste like the package they are in.

There are several large restaurant chains that have closed restaurants due to poor management, the employees have been a problem, over expansion. Appleby's has closed several of it restaurants.

In the last several weeks Lowes has closed many under performing stores around the country.

Another great option is growing your own vegetables, A garden is a great way to get organic food. NE you raise your own chickens thats an excellent way to get fresh eggs.

Wild salmon is much better than farm raised salmon.

We eat the 1911 diabetic diet for the most part. No grains, pretty much no "white stuff" at all except cauliflower. Basically meat and veggies, cheese and cream.

We use Keto recipes when we need something new. Maria Emmerich has pubished several that are just amazing. --50.82.xxx.xx

I am not a great cook and definitely lack creativity in the kitchen. I love hellofresh. It's super easy and I save the recipes I like for future use. --97.32.x.xxx

Has anyone here ever tasted the MRE (meals ready to eat) that are given to soldiers as food rations? Recently, someone I know in the military gave me one and it comes in a heavy duty green plastic bag with the Dept. of Defense logo on it. Mine says "Chicken Noodle" soup but I have not opened the bag yet. It looks like something you would want to take on a camping trip. --68.63.xxx.xxx

NE, come on !!! your wife doesn't work outside the home and you're a chef sidelining as a landlord with flexibility in your schedule !!!

cook a piece of ham, throw some string beans and potatoes in the pot.

put boneless, skinless chicken breasts in a baking pan, toss in a couple potatoes and some broccoli. Toss in a chunk of butter, cover it in alum foil and bake for an hour.

take boneless pork chops, cut up a few sweet potatoes, dump in some cinnamon and applesauce, cover and bake for an hour.

prep time is maybe 10 minutes for each of those and walk away.

Kind of the same line on a new tv commercial I've been seeing. People are cooking and it shows how their phones and tablets get in the way so you're to talk to Alexa or Siri or someone on how to knead your dough. Another downfall of civilization!! Pick up the stinkin' phone and call your mom, grandma, aunt, grandma's sister instead of talking to a stinkin' machine !!!! --72.70.xxx.xxx

Nicole, I do most of the cooking now. My wife does not cook. She wasn't taught to when growing up, so doesn't know how. She will be cooking these though. --50.107.xxx.xxx

I have started to see the meal kits in grocery stores (including super Walmart).

I have not tried them but yes, some of the recipes look great and include meals I have not eaten/cooked before.

One of my questions is... at $10/meal why not just order from a restaurant? --47.12.xxx.xx

Most of the time, restaurant food that is healthy is more than $10 per serving. Hubby and I usually get 4 servings from each $20 meal. Dinner and lunch the next day. Healthy and fresh food. Different than the country cooking I grew up with. --64.251.xxx.xxx

My thinking about food is to simply not eat as much.

When you wake up, go do something before you actually eat. You may find that you will go long into the afternoon before eating.

Your mind will be interested in what you are doing. Get out of the habit of eating so much.

You will begin to feel great again
