I notice Lowes and Walmart are discontinuing the corded cheap mini blinds. The cordless ones don't fit the brackets of the corded ones...and I'm lazy and don't want to change them over.

Where are you guys buying corded cheap mini blinds? --216.218.xx.x

I still get them at Walmart. Maybe you can try amazon? I did see Home Depot got rid of them and I'm not paying $15 and up for blinds. I like $4-$7 because you know they will be destroyed no matter what they cost. --174.201.x.xx

Gavens SC and Me CA; Go to walmart.com they have great selections of 2' and 2 1/2 FAUX WOOD BLINDS.

I don't like the thin 1" blinds.

Plus the cordless is a great idea to install especially with children in the unit. The cord could be an issue with young children.

Check it out on Walmart.com, you will pay a higher price than the 1" blind but it really look nice. Plus add 6 inches to the width of the window and 6" above the window to the sill, the blind can be longer. If the blind is too long you can cut the cords and shorten the blinds too. It's easy to shorten them just take your time with them. The bottom rail slat has small tabs you can remove and this will show you how much cord you need to leave in the blind when you cut the length to below the window sill. --99.56.xx.xx

Unfortunately it's not a trend.....it's the law. Everything will be cordless shortly. This started over 2 years ago here.

Locally, HD just yellow tagged the remainder of their corded blinds in Sept & Oct. Ran to WalMart & their shelves were empty as well. No getting around re-installing the brackets here. The price disparity between corded & cordless is ridiculous. And you're gonna have to school your tenants on how to use them.

I've switched to 2" blinds on my own stuff. Management props were still getting the crappy minis. That may change shortly. The price disparity isn't as great on the corded vs. cordless in the faux wood blinds for some reason. --104.128.xx.xxx

And I thought it was just my Lowes being slack and not ordering the $6 cheap ones. I'm not paying $30 a blind. I went to walmart and they were more expensive but only $9. Not as great a size selection. --65.188.xxx.xxx

Our Home Depot has gotten rid of the corded 1" blinds, but the substitute cordless version is only about 1 more. The Hampton Bay version is twice as much.

The real problem is that after finally standardizing all our places on the corded, make replacement a 30 second breeze, every blind replacement going forward is 5 minutes.

Thanks, government.

I have never put up a miniblind EVER. I'd guess almost all my windows have the brackets. If they are semi-decent when a tenant leaves, I let them. If the slats are broken and the cords knotted and ripped, I toss them.

I have regular white curved end curtain rods for rod pocket curtains. I have curtains in every room. Again, they stay from tenant to tenant and if they don't want them, they can toss them. --72.70.xxx.xxx

I'm with MikeA - have used roller shades for 20+ years. I get the heaviest room darkening vinyl shades from Lowe's or H.D., cut to size. They hold up pretty well. I think that I have had to charge for maybe 3 or 4 broken rollers and 1 ripped shade (kid took a letter opener to it) through the years.

Although a few tenants keep them pulled down all the time, which makes the inside like a cave... --71.175.xxx.x

Wally Mart of course. I had to replace 5 windows mini-blinds. Each window was 5 feet across (old aluminum sliders). So I priced the LONG 5 foot size which had been there and then discovered for 1/4 the price, I could get TWO 2 1/2 foot blinds and install them side by side. Worked out great! Each side of the slider has its own blind and makes it easy to open, close, control the entire window. My tenants love this arrangement. I love the Cheap price I paid for 10 sets of blinds. --174.66.xxx.xxx
