I had a contractor put in allure, and left 15 1/2 boxes which measures for a certain square footage. Contractor says it will take more. I estimate I provided about 40sq ft extra to do the floor of about 340 sqft. He claims he needs an extra 125 sq ft. Since I know how the guy is, I wonder if he is trying to return the extra for money. If I don't see a lot of scrap at the work site, I would think he must have stole them. Would you seek to prosecute in a circumstance that it was obvious some of the boxes were not used and un accounted for?

One box of Allure grip strip covers 24 sq ft. Calculate the total square footage, take out any areas covered by counters, built in cabinets, inside corners, etc and add 10% for scrap and "whoops." MAYBE buy 1-2 extra boxes on top of that if you anticipate that the last row will be trimmed down to almost nothing.

340 square feet + 10% is about 16 boxes. 17 tops. You provided him slightly more than the 10% "cushion." If he can't do it with that, he's incompetent. Find someone else.

Going by the numbers provided you should be "OK" … unless the square footage is incorrect. Did the contractor advise you of how much sq ft they are doing? --209.217.xxx.xx

Sheesh, guy has 15 boxes left with 1/2 (doing basic lemonade stand math that is 7 1/2 boxes left), and he is requesting 125 sq more, take away 2 boxes and send him back to finish this job. --76.188.xxx.xx

Forget about going to court. You will not be able to actually prove much.

You need facts. Not an estimate. And he may have had an idiot helping that wasted a lot on bad cuts.

Who knows.

What does he say when you tell him that he must have had a lot of mistakes. That you should not have to pay for.

You can get another quote from another contractor or sales person that will state the maximum amount need for a room with that layout.

Just show them a drawing. --73.152.xx.xxx

it might not sound like much but if you gave him 16 boxes (17max) the job should be done. He either messed up and burned through some, or possibly the runs are such that the not full piece is always slightly longer than half a piece making the cast off useless. Alternatively was he mixing it up so that blocky patterns didn't develop? If so then it would take extra pieces to make a more aesthetically appealing layout. But to tell you he need 5 more boxes? Red flag! Otherwise doublecheck the SQ ft. Have you seen the scraps? Your opening words say it all "since I know how the guy is". --24.194.xx.xx

He did 2 of 3 rooms and appears to have used 1 1/2 boxes extra, guess I'll give him the benefit of doubt. He had asked for 5 more which is 121 sqft so I knew his math was off, or he was going sell the extra --107.242.xxx.x

He needs to know you know the math and vise versa. Take the measurements with him and do the math with him. Once he knows that you know the numbers his measurements and numbers will either be very close to yours or you'll have uncovered he honestly has problems with basic math. --174.233.xxx.xxx

I can do a whole 1500 square foot house with Allure and have about half a box of scrap from the entire thing.

That's out of 63 boxes.

That is one of the beautiful things about Allure, almost zero waste.

Count the empty boxes... --98.122.x.xx

Good thing you aren’t paying him by the hour, then he could really get one over on you. He would probably bring it back for store credit while he was “ on the clock”. Probably better to get a price from this one that includes materials. Of course he will probably use materials that he stole from someone else’s job...... --71.10.xxx.xxx
