One of our through-wall heat pump/AC units was not blowing cold air. the error message said "30" which we couldn't find anywhere. Thought we were placing a $500 replacement.
Suddenly DH texted me and said, "I figured it out! Here's a clue: Pascale would know." (My French friend.) So somehow it had been set to Celsius instead of Fahrenheit! A quick look online in the manual, 5 seconds button push et voila. Fixed.
Had we had to call an HVAC guy: first of all, they don't work on these through-wall Amana things we buy, they work on the big boys. So if we could even get one to come, they probably wouldn't know how to fix it anyway, they don't have the manuals.
So glad it was so easily fixed!
It's funny but the departed tenant never mentioned it, she just lived with converting the temp from C to F. I texted her about it and she said, "One day it just flipped so we lived with it." She thinks she put the remote upside down which may have caused the simultaneous button push required to change things.
She lived there three years and never mentioned it! But was smart enough to figure out it was Celsius and not broken...
