I'm in the process of dressing up a turd so I can sell it. The previous owner put that glue down indoor outdoor carpet that lasted about 10 years, which I'm impressed with. We torn it up and the concrete looks good awful. I hate to paint it but I think I dont have a choice. I can possibly grind it off.
For painting it, prep, and mix that grit in the paint for traction?

You grind it...with caution, it may create dust. Wear some protection.
A safer way would be to use a long handle scraper ($25 at Harbor freight) - a bit more elbow grease, but maybe safer. --99.59.x.xxx |

I glued down that same thing to cover a messy looking concrete porch. Tenant loves it but where she spilled food the critters have gnawed holes in it. I don't want to replace it either and will suggest she get a throw rug. Can you glue more down? My tenants really like it and it does make a nice impression. I have a huge metal awning over the deck too. At least the deck wouldn't be a mess if you did both of those things. --73.178.xxx.xx |

If the only problem is the glue mess and the concrete is in good shape, you can get the mess off easily using a DIAMABRUSH
product. Just google it and watch the videos. We rented one and loved it so much bought one. They make for concrete and wood. Works great on wood that has had glue down vinyl. Really impressed with it. --192.129.xxx.xxx |

Similar Situation: Solution for my 13 x 21 exterior concrete patio. Removed the indoor / outdoor stuff to find 8 cracks on the concrete patio and stuck glue. Used epoxy filler in the cracks. Did not try to 'sand' down or 'remove' the pre existing glue. Bought Traffic Master Outdoor Carpet (14 x 20), one wall knife, 2 tubes outdoor glue. Affixed to the patio. Total cost $ 214.00 My time 4 hours. No brainer (for me). Patio looks great. If I sell the place, I'll get way more than what I spent for this simple job. Eddy,
1/4" thick paint.
We paint over this and add a ton of sprinkles in the paint. Top coat with sealant. Looks fantastic. The glue texture helps with traction.
OR...
a nice woven outdoor patio type rug.
Just covered one with an industrial type rubber mat from Lowes. Looks good.
