Having lunch with my brother just now and he read me a pretty good joke I thought I'd share.

It said- Science Fact: its impossible for a man to load a truck and strap it down without saying, "That's not going anywhere."

Haha I thought that was pretty good. --50.107.xxx.xxx

Roflmao...DH said that once, and 15 min later our brand new tub/shower surround flew off the back of the pickup. Last time he ever argued my questions regarding if its tied down good. --68.107.xxx.x

Another good (funny)one (though not scientific): A handyman who says "don't worry, I've got this" instead of listening to me give instructions. --68.10.xxx.x

It's not just men. I had a rocking chair tied on top of stuff in my truck about ten years ago. Flew off on the freeway in SoCal, I was sooo lucky I didn't kill anyone!

Now I double strap everything, and I keep 6 straps under the backseat. They are like $15 for a set at HFT. --47.216.xx.xxx

HA! My hubby says that. Every. Single. Time. The good news is that he only once ever had something fall out, and that was years ago when his dad loaded some of our stuff into his pickup to help to move us and said, "That will never shift." My drysink is still missing it's back splash and towel bar... --71.175.xxx.xxx

The bridge leaving the OBX used to be very rocky - like riding a galloping horse. Our pick up also tended to bounce a bit.

DH bounced a washer (or was it a dryer?) right out of the back...

My dad had a load of lumber on top of his car. Was going down hill on a long bridge in Florida (forget the name) and the lumber slid right off in front of him. --50.82.xxx.xx

Oh ya WMH, I lost a big lumber load once. I had a 1995 dodge Dakota packed to the gills with 16' 2x4's for a spec house we were building. Slippery bed liner, stick shift. Stop sign on a hill and lost the whole load when I went to pull onto the main road. What a disaster.

We also lost a bunch of bubble wrap house insulation on the interstate before. Cops pulled us over with it bunched up under their car. They had to call out state trucks to pick it up. It was cut in squares and flying

Off the trailer at 70mph like a deck of cards. --50.107.xxx.xxx

My business partner had our brand new fridge fall out of the back of his pickup while heading to a rental this last year. I got a phone call from him that I needed to come meet him because he needed some help. I asked what it was and he said he needed help picking the fridge up off the highway. :)

After I finished laughing, I headed over and we got it loaded up. Pieces of styrofoam everywhere! :)

In the end, it still worked fine -- just a ding on one corner at the bottom.

I plan to tease him about it forever... :)

I was following a pickup the other day with a box from Lowes in the bed, no tie downs, to tail gate. Gave him lots of room in front of me! Gee, at least put a strap around it! --108.44.xx.xx

Linda J, that's funny. The same guy that lost the load of house wrap with me also lives by the philosophy that if you drive fast enough to the dumpster, most will blow out by the time your there! Haha.

I don't know if he owns straps! Haha --50.107.xxx.xxx

I strap or secure loads but mattresses are tricky. Lost a box spring stopped right away and as I try to waive drivers off they just keep going at full speed one after the other. Unsecured loads is one of my pet peeves, esp w the tailgate open. There really is no excuse not to tie stuff down. Some dumb people were moving a dresser in a pickup standing up w the drawers facing back. They flew out at my son's car and his fiance got minor brain injury from the incident. --66.87.xxx.xx

I carefully strapped the riding mower on the trailer and drove away. About a mile down the road I heard a terrible clunk. I had forgotten to flip the lock on the ball hitch and the trailer had come loose.

Another time I forgot to strap the mower. When I pulled away it simple rolled off and kept rolling down the street. The BRAKE didn’t hold so well.

Helper bought 3 flat packed wardrobe cabinets at Lowes. Very heavy “no need for straps” he said. As he turned to pull onto the street the cardbaord on cardbaord made them super slick and they simply slide off the traiker, onto the street.

Ever notice all the spilled paint where the Lowes exit meets the street?

"That will hold it" LOL I even say that when I'm alone.

And yes, I have lost a few loads over the years. Late teens: metal band broke on a stack of plywood, lost it all over the interstate. That was a mess! At least no other cars were hit.

Lost a refrigerator, washer, and dryer all at the same time, also on the interstate. Tied it down, but cheap tie broke. That was an expensive lesson.

I use heavy 5000 pound military ratchet straps now. And several of them. It's hard to use too many straps, easy to use to few. --98.122.x.xx
