Do you think these can look decent, or are they cheesy looking compared to a real backsplash that uses thinset?
I have a granite countertop in my home (not a rental) and I was thinking of DIY this instead of paying someone to do a real backsplash, to save money. And possibly try it in a rental at some point in the future at vacancy.

I wouldn't put peel and stick backsplash on a granite counter, that'll make it look cheap. Go with real. It's easy to DIY. --174.201.xx.xxx |

Thanks. I looked into DIY but a couple of the walls where it would be placed do not meet at 90 degrees so I don't feel confident doing it myself as a first timer. --72.188.xxx.xxx |

You mean the inside corners of walls don't meet at 90 degrees?
Just an FYI, I've done countless tile backsplashes and never considered any corner angles any time I've done it. Didn't even think about it. --174.201.xx.xxx |

NE there's one inside corner near the sink that meets at roughly 122 degrees. As a first timer I wasn't sure if I would be able to make the cuts properly for the meeting point to look seamless in that situation. --72.188.xxx.xxx |

Just cut your tiles straight and butt them up to each other. You will have to grout regardless and grout hides a lot. --174.201.xx.xxx |

OK thanks. Wasn't sure if I could do that or if it would leave an ugly gap. I would really rather DIY this than pay someone for it because I just spent a ton on a remodel at a rental. I could use the money I save by DIY'ing this to buy the mitre saw I want for the baseboards. --72.188.xxx.xxx |

We tried those sheets of glue that are supposed to be easier than mastic. Fell right off the wall. Big waste of money. --50.82.xxx.xx |

Just cut the tiles right and you shouldn't have monster gaps. I use mastic with a v notch trowel right over the drywall for counter back splashes. Just clean the extra quick cuz it's a pain to clean when it dries. --174.201.xx.xxx |

I have a friend who did the peel and stick backsplash in her kitchen. I can tell this was the peel and stick stuff from 12 feet away.

When you go to sell your home you will be glad that it is real tile not junk. That said, I have a metal splash that I purchased at the hardware store and it screws on. Much easier to clean. I also used melamine board in pretty designs on my fourplexes years ago. It was relatively easy for me to install and looked pretty. I cut it with a circular saw and even put it around cabinets that hung dow. In some of the rentals there is no splash and the wall gets washed and repainted occasionally. --73.178.xxx.xx |

I've never seen vinyl back splash over granite. The two don't go together well. --99.59.x.xxx |

I vote for real tile, too - for looks and durability. But be sure to use caulk (grout colored), not grout in the corners. Where two different planes (geometry, not aircraft ; ) meet is where cracks form and grout leaks, due to expansion/contraction. For the same reason, do not butt the tiles tightly - leave a little space. --68.10.xxx.x |

If you don't feel comfortable cutting the tiles for the corners, make a template from card board, paper, wood, ...
After you get everything right the transfer your template to the tile and cut away. --76.111.xx.xx |

It is recommended that caulk matching the grout be used in corners, grout most generally cracks where 2 walls meet. --68.60.xxx.xx |

Lowes sells a 24 x 30 inch stainless steel back splash that screws into the back wall. A little pricey but it does look good though. --68.63.xxx.xxx |

I did them on a rental and they look great everywhere except for corners. When you cut them the tile part is an empty bubble. I ended up having to put trim pieces in the corners and it didn’t look professional. Ok for a rental to get your through a tenancy, but I wouldn’t do them on my own house. --96.245.xx.xxx |
