Has anyone else experienced this with Zillow?

I went thru the process of setting up an account, with the email/txt verification.

I created my listing providing all the info, hit the 'activiate my listing'

It came back with "We're unable to activate this listing at this time. Please contact account_verification@zillow.com to resolve the issue".

I emailed support and they came back asking for me to provide them with a copy of my deed, a utility bill or an agreement that I am authorized to list the apt.

Is there really a fraud protection mechanism? They already have verified me via email/txt. Or is it just a method for them to collect my info?

Any other free posting services you recommend? Other than Craigslist.

Hi GLR,

I use Zillow frequently. If you're selling a house, they're much more likely to require you to verify that you really own it vs. a scammer. I seem to recall when I posted my first rentals, however, there was a "one and done" account verification. It could also be market-driven too. If there have been a lot of fraudulent listings reported in your area, they may have tougher scrutiny.

They need your contact info to contact you. Go figure.

They don't want "Joe Smith from Anywhereville" posting stuff and potentially causing real owners/property managers headaches. This ain't Craigslist.

They will send you a few ads now and then asking if you want to try some of their paid services, but mostly it's truly a great, free service.

Bottom line: it's free and effective. Take the time to get it rolling and it'll be a great resource for you! --173.20.xxx.xxx

I recently listed my rental on Zillow and had them 'verify' my phone number by email. No problem and the ad went right up on Zillow, Trulia, and HotSpot. It was almost immediately 'stolen' by a scammer who added a phone number and email contact and started asking for money to be sent to him and was telling people to 'just move in, the place is open.' Arragghhh!

No problem with Zillow, they allowed me to delete my ad and repost easily and removed the scammer's posts when I alerted them. So far it's been all good.

Craig's List got 'scammed' and it continues to appear with different prices, etc. I have to screen everyone now to see where they saw the ad. Craig's List not as easy to remove the scammed postings though. I'm sticking with Zillow. --174.66.xxx.xxx

This sounds like a good way to protect your ad from being hijacked, watermark all your photos. --76.188.xxx.xx

I wouldn't be uploading anything like that to zillow. They can verify phone and email, but pound sand on the rest.

A deed?yeah right. Next they'll want your operating agreements and articles of incorporation. --50.32.xxx.xxx

You might have been misdirected to a ghosting site that looks like Zillow.

My watermarked photos and all have been hijacked from Zillow and posted on clist. So you need to search CL for your ad anyway. This has happened to me twice this year. I ask lookers where they see the listing most don't know they look so many places, but if they tell me CL it raises a red flag, since I don't post there. --66.87.xxx.xxx

It is meant to deter fraud and scammers. Anyone can create an email address and that really isn't a viable verification. I've been using Zillow for years and never been asked to verify who I am or my association to the property. Sounds like you might have landed on a phishing site. --98.121.xxx.xxx

I posted my house for rent for the last 4 months on zillow. I uploaded all documents found a tenant, did all communication needed to until the tenant's application was approve all through Zillow. Then signed lease agreement using the Zillow manager and have the bank accounts linked for both the tenant and myself. The Tenant made the payment needed. Once all completed, ZILLOW decided without any reason to disconnect my account and showed the followingmessage:

Your account is currently disabled

We are unable to access your properties at this time. Please contact account_verification@zillow.com to resolve the issue.

THIS IS an ongoing issue with many customers and they are so poor in customer care service.

WHO ALLOWS TO PROVIDE A SERVICE IN AMERICA WHERE THEY EXPECT TO GET BACK TO THE CUSTOMER AFTER 5 days of a complain.
