Paid off another one this week. Yay! Man does it feel good!
I’ve been on a crusade over these last half dozen(+) years to pay down debt. I have only two more to go, but they are so out of reach that I’m not certain I will even try to pay them off (or should). idk. They are my most expensive rentals (stupidly bought by a younger me.) and the ones that cash flow the least. I have considered selling them, but I have some long term tenants in them and they are finally appreciating.
I have lived a lifetime of frugality and those habits have served me well during this quest. I won’t say that it was painless. lol
I have another possible purchase in the pipeline so my, self-congratulations may be short lived. The hopeful new purchase may see me saving like a madman again. I think I can pay it off in a year-ish. (small 2bd/1bth). Honestly, I’m tempted not to buy it just to extend this awesome feeling of freedom. Who knows.
I apologize that I came here to brag, but I also don’t know where there is any other setting where this conversation is appropriate or understood as the celebration that it is.
Thanks again for all of the amazingly generous posters, that continue to inspire me.

Congrats man. It's something to be proud of.
If Dave Ramsey has those who are now out of debt scream, "I'm debt free" then you deserve to give yourself a slap on the back for this. --24.20.xxx.xxx |

Congrats!!
I was inspired by FREEDOM and started that path, paid off couple, got couple HELOCs in case deal comes my way.
Wifey read into doomsday thing (ie. collapse of Venezuela ) and decided that certain portfolio of metal (gold/silver) is necessary when super-inflation comes. So, the money got diverted to metal..
Any thoughts on this? --71.232.xxx.xxx |

Thank you for the support and encouraging words. I really do appreciate it.
Paying this particular home off was a specific milestone which cumulates the many years of rebuilding a life. I won’t bore you with the details, but you can believe me when I say that it has been a long journey that, in the beginning, felt impossible. So much so that I considered walking away from it all.
If I should ever pay off the other two, you won’t need the web to hear my excitement. Most will easily hear my screams of joy as they pass overhead, to the opposite coast. Lol The only debt I have is the other two homes. Not gonna lie...It’s a very nice feeling.
Although, over the last few days, I’ve gone to my online bank account no less than a half dozen times, just to see the zero beside the payed off mortgage (as I will again this morning. lol.) Admittedly, also the many other zeros beside my checking accounts. Lol “Come on October!!”. I will admit to feeling a little bit like Wile Coyote finally catching the Road Runner. “Now what?” Not so unlike Wile, as a single guy, I also seem to be looking around my cave thinking “With who?”. The conversation would be awkward and “braggy” around friends, potentially expensive around lovers, and not fully understood by my grown-ish children, who still see my homes as a burden. So here I am, ‘celebrating’ w strangers on the web. I realized, as I prepare to walk out the door, this morning, to go work on a rental home, on yet another Sunday, that this post has been my only celebration. Did I say thank you for being there? Thank you.
Off to build my little corner of America. :) Thanks again for your words of support and amazingly generous help, over the years

Oh so many congratulations to you!!! The freedom feeling is REAL.
And yes, agreed, there are many conversations about this business you just can't have in real life...
We have one mortgage left - also purchased when younger and dumber - but it totally cash flows and no worries it won't (4 townhomes, rent on 1.2 pays mortgage and we should never see all 4 empty at once!) so we are not worried about paying that one off. We instead keep saving cash for the next one...
Can't answer you about the metal...I know those that believe in it REALLY believe in it, so I don't know how you find a balanced answer. --50.82.xxx.xx |

That is GREAT! CONGRATULATIONS!! Your hard work and sacrifice are paying off! I spend so much on rehab/maintence, taxes, ins its hard to imagine doing that, No easy accomplishment! And this group has been a mentoring support to me as well during the difficult and uncertain times. So yes we can all applaud and celebrate your accomplishment with you!! In a similar way, Ive said, my mom was the only one i could brag unapologetically to about my kids, because she was "there" with me. Sometomes our properties is a little like our kids.

Gr81, sound like you are truly a "great one." More power to ya, Hon. I am also down to 2, but my plan is to keep my retirement money safe, and let the tenants payoff the mortgages. Both plans work well if you stick to them. --108.87.xx.xxx |
