Hi Everyone,

I just installed a new kitchen for $2000 and when I mention this to other people, they are so taken back, I thought I'd post it here to see what your experience is. To be fair, the cabinet, sink, faucet are new, but the appliances are used but they do look new.

$1500 - cabinets

$200 - counter tops

$120 - sink + faucet

$30 - paneling over wall cabinets

$100 - Bosch dishwasher (craigslist)

$100 - Glass top range + over the range Microwave (Craigslist)

+________

$2050

The cabinets are all wood (not particle board) and are beautiful and the vinyl floor was good enough to leave it alone.

Here's a link to the photos:

Robin: After doing a lot of research, I decided on RTACabinetStore.com. I have a permanent 10% discount there for contractors. I told them I install kitchens in homes that I flip and that qualifies even though I'm technically a contractor. The kitchens in my 12 unit have only 2 base cabinets, so maybe my layout allows slightly lower costs for kitchen cabinets too.

Charlie: The Microwave was $50, I doubt I could get a cheaper one at HD new :-)

Shipping can be tricky. Another site I have ordered from (TheRTAStore.com - has 30% off every other week) has much lower shipping costs if you break up your order into smaller orders (which is opposite of how it should work). But the place I got these from allows me to pick them up locally - it's a 1 hour drive for me. --73.52.xx.xxx

Get my Cabinets from Berlin or Bristol.Connecticut, they deliver to whatever room your working on,don't think they'd deliver out of state,Viking Kitchens, they get them from somewhere in Illinois, all assembled, well made and finished...................charlie. .................................................... --32.214.xxx.xx

Dan: Yes, the Home Depot cabinets are made of particle board with wall paper as the covering but with real wood doors only. These RTA cabinets are more beautiful too with glazing to boot.

NE: yes ...it's a quick ride for me. Sometimes there's a flaw or problem with a cab, but they rectify it by sending a replacement despite me picking them up. --73.52.xx.xxx

Tony, in one of your pictures it looks like you installed an upper cabinet right over the electric panel. Is that allowed by code?

The cabinets do look great and I need a similar layout of cabinets for one of my properties. --99.165.xx.xxx

Gene: It's actually an empty space with removable shelves ...to not cover up the service panel. The whole cover can still be removed if needed.

The shelves are a piece of oak tread (for steps) which was the cheapest oak I could find ($15 i think), and they are nicely rounded for a nice finish.

I'm glad it looked like it was a cabinet ...that service panel screwed up a nice flow, so I wanted to make it look part of the cabinetry. --73.52.xx.xxx

Here's a kitchen I just installed with the exact same cabinets about a month ago in one of my units:

http://www.ad26.com/6235.htm

The photos are a little more clearer so you can see the cabinets better. The ones in the bathroom are the same cabinets and the medicine cabinet is a wall cabinet I simply cut down from 12" deep to about 8". --73.52.xx.xxx

This does look nice and I really like you have the airiel view of the place, however it has been in the NEC since the 60's the load center needs to have 30inch clear working space, so be aware you may have to modify something to sell. A RTA cabinet store has opened near me on the edge of the industrial valley. --76.188.xxx.xx
