How much impact will a chest freezer have on my electric bill? Freezer looks to be about 4 x 4.

I thought you told her not to bring that freezer into the place.

She gave you the bird and moved it in anyway.

If you don't evict her, charge her $50 a week extra.

Personally, when a tenant gets in my face with a direct violation and basically says "up yours", I get rid of them asap. --66.188.xx.xxx

I know we visited this last week, ut here is a valid reason to have given her her walking papers the moment this thing showed up.

IMHO in this type situation to have made an allowance for this is a direct slap in the face of the other residents and may wind up encouraging such violations by the other occupants. --173.70.xxx.xxx

I have one. I haven't noticed any wild charges. The good thing is when the lid is lifted, the cold stays in there. Much more economical than a fridge. --73.178.xxx.xx

Didn't't she claim it was only there temporarily until someone came to pick it up?

I think Frank is right. The other tenants will try to get away with things, too - and you will be seen as one who can be walked on/manipulated. Sorry, but I think it needs to go - or she does, no matter what the electricity costs.

However, if you work out an agreement for her to pay extra for the privilege, others will see that "favors" don't come free. I would make it a significant amount - perhaps a percentage (like 20-25%?) of the normal rent for that room. --68.10.xxx.x

I've got a 5 cu ft chest freezer that the label says is the least economical model to run and the estimate is $26 per year. 216 KWH estimated yearly electric use. ( the energy label is still on it) --174.216.xx.xxx

By the way, that little sucker really works well. It does its job and freezes food and keeps it well frozen. --174.216.xx.xxx

Here's the situation: She's going to remove it and put it on the curb for trash pick up. Her suite mate is asking can they keep it and share it. The suite mate has been a decent tenant and I would only consider if they pay the extra electric. --209.122.xx.xxx

How about charging $10 extra per week. That should cover the extra power, and still make you money. --64.251.xxx.xxx

Given the situation, and that a person with a good track record asked first, I would let them keep it - for an appropriate fee. --174.255.xxx.xxx
