I have an HVAC unit which is leaking water around the back and bottom. Any ideas? I do plan to call in the HVAC guy. Thanks

The drain hose is probably clogged. It's usually pretty easy to unscrew the hose from its coupling and clean it out...the clog is usually around the joints or bends of the coupling. I use a piece of coated electrical wiring to clean it out. --71.11.xxx.xx |

is it hose or white pvc? its backing up into the A coil tray due to blockage. Try blowing back into drain line going outside. DO NOT put your mouth on the line-- make some type of adapter and use it. Also DO NOT suck on that line. The line could be loaded with bacteria.
Just had one of these Tuesday on AC in attic. Happens pretty often. --99.103.xxx.xxx |

Laura forgot-- you can buy a small blow out tool. it has a CO2 cartridge. you put the rubber adapter against the drain line and pull the trigger-- it shoots air into the line and clears it. Cartridges are sold separately. --99.103.xxx.xxx |

Just asked Vee about this very thing in utility room. Didn't know if water on floor was coming from AC, washer or water tank. Of course my drain line goes right into the slab. Must be an epidemic with all this humidity. --40.133.xxx.xx |

If you have a bicycle pump you can add some tape and blow it out gently, I pour a cup of bleach in before putting it back together trying to retard the growth of bacteria and dust slime --76.188.xxx.xx |

As others have said, a blocked condensate drain line is very common and often the cause. Another potential cause is a leaky or rusted out pan below the A-coil, which would be more difficult to repair.
Some technicians put "pills" in the A-coil trays when they service the units to minimize bacteria/rust/etc...although on many units this is not something a typical homeowner or landlord could easily do....must have an exposed A-coil pan.
