I'm ready to start showing a unit I've been rehabbing for several month this Saturday. Well, I was that is.

Had a helper here on Tuesday to sand and paint 1 closet and touch up walls elsewhere.

He sanded and painted the closet and did the touch ups. Awesome right?

Ya, except he had a fan blasting on him in the closet the whole time as he sanded and the WHOLE downstairs of the unit is covered in fine spackle dust. Too fine to sweep, too much to mop without it turning into paste on the floors. Then he did the touch up paint and tracked it through all the 2nd floor bedrooms and hallway.

I'd fire him except he's my brother!!!! Ah, the nonsense we deal with....

I never sand plaster or allow it to be sanded. I use joint compound which is softer and light coats and go over them with a sponge to ease those lines. Also in a closet it doesn't have to be so neat. --73.178.xxx.xx

Make him clean it up so he realizes it would have been easier to be attentive to the problem than allow it to become a big mess,if you clean it up he will not learn anything except you will fix his problems --72.231.xxx.xxx

NE,like Miss Ally says,if you apply the premix with the proper 12 trowel, there should be no need to sand, therefore no dust.blame the taper, big time........................charlie............................................ --32.214.xxx.xx

I've been spackling for 12-13 years. Countless houses. Countless sheets of drywall. Swirling ceilings etc. I've never spackled a house that didn't require sanding though. --174.201.xx.x

NE,with that many sheets under your belt, you should be better than you are. Charlie, when I don't spackle, we have a guy who comes out from Pittsburgh to do it for us (partners nephew). He is a spackler for Ryan Homes. That's all he does full time. House after house after house. He uses pressurized spackle boxes to spackle walls. (Google them). Flat joints, inside and outside corners. The guy is a pro. He still sands. --50.32.xxx.xxx

NE,that guy who works for Ryan, would never cut the mustard around here.Back 20 or 30 years ago they had a Hockey team The New Haven Blades Junior League,All Quebec lads, some 6'5", and taller all sheetrockers and tapers, didn't need stilts. Two would start. Rocking at 7.45,!!Two more would come in at1.45pm to tape,by the time the first two finished the sheetrocking at3.38 the the second two had first coated everything on a three bedroom ranch, then back to the rink to practice for the nights game.their finish coat was finer than a sheet of sheetrock.so no sanding, they didn't know what a sheet of sandpaper looked like.........charlie...........wee wee monsieur...jennae parley English.Eh...............................sheetrock wee wee.......................... --32.214.xxx.xx

I had my electricians once swap out a fixture in a 100% finished house. We just landscaped and it rained the night before...they walked in the muddy top soil instead of on the paved driveway...they tracked mud all inside.

I opened the door, took one look, closed it and called the owner, I said if you ever want to work for me again clean it.

He sent the guys back and they spent hours cleaning the floors, and you know what they never did that again! --24.45.xxx.xxx
