Met with a couple of old ladies yesterday, they pulled up into our driveway and called us on the phone to see the unit down the road from us. It is the smallest that we have 14 x 48 1986 mobile home. We have put house windows in it, and it is very nice, old but recently painted, some new vinyl down. Anyway, sadly this sixty something year old lady has been renting somewhere for 2 years but the private well water is very bad & she is going to have cancer surgery soon & her doctors advised her to be somewhere with clean water for a better recovery. (new to me reason for moving) After reviewing her application, she filled it out & brought it right back, I noticed, 1 pet. I called her & asked what it was & she said a pitbull! I explained how sorry I was but the neighbor has farm animals & our insurance doesn't allow them. So she said, I need this place real bad, we will rehome the dog. I felt so bad. Then as if my Higher Power was trying to let me know I made the right decision a lady posted on Facebook tonight that one had come by her house today & killed her cat!

Enough said. Of course, the cat shouldn't have been left out but that is awful. Normally I would have been afraid of a prospect facing what this lady is facing, but I had a nudge to go ahead because she is willing to pay 500.00 (what she is paying now) for a unit that we were only getting 400.00 for 6 years! She does have a lot of family support so we will see. --71.219.x.x

I'm confused. In the first paragraph it sounds like you (wisely) rejected her.

But the second paragraph sounds like you are taking her (go ahead) because she will pay more.

Huh? --68.10.xxx.x

She's trained and understands the damage and shares your concern. Yes take her! She will enjoy being there. --99.203.xx.xxx

I would not take anyone that would "rehome" a pet to get my unit. Can't be that important of a pet to them. I don't want people that will so easily give up an animal... makes you wonder how long before they get another one. Add to it the clean water story. I think you are being "hoodwinked". --108.44.xx.xxx

You know how-and why-I feel about pitt bulls.

DO NOT rent to her. TROUBLE with a capital T. On many counts, not just the dog.

The pitbull will be back before the end of the week.

If there's an incident with a pitbull that insurance refuses to cover then that extra $100 a month won't go very far at all.

Not all pitbulls are bad news, but all pitbulls are designated as a dangerous breed. --98.229.xxx.xx

This is an example of why landlords in ontario (due to unfair rental laws), MUST reject good, deserving tenants who have potential issues.

Regardless of what my heart said....I would have rejected her.

The applicant might have actually rehomed the pitbull....but "rehomed" might have meant giving it to a family member...who of course would "visit" and "bring the dog".

Or there would be some other reason for having the pit on the property...I would not risk it.

Getting so many requests to take these animals my insurance has a 5million liability walking pet policy available but the owner of the property must be named as beneficiary, and a copy of the front page must be given before keys can be issued. --76.188.xxx.xx

It's in my written criteria that I will reject anyone who says they will rehome a pet.

It is probably a lie. They will move in without the pet and the pet will be living there within 2 weeks.

If they really do get rid of the pet, they are irresponsible people.

I take dogs but only dearly loved dogs who are a member of the family and their care and training is a very high priority to the tenant. I don't have any trouble with that type of pet owner. --174.216.xx.xx

"One pet, a pit bull." It seems she lied to you, and had a cat as well. The fact that someone killed her cat AFTER she denied that she had a cat does not mean that she didn't lie to you.

The pit bull will be back pronto after you give her the keys. She also lied about having a cat, no way would I take her. She is lonely and wants pets and will have her pets, no matter what she tells you.

I would also be concerned there is more to the story than her doctor telling her she needs good water, --108.51.xxx.xxx

Also if 'bad water' is the issue you can buy bottled water for less than the cost of a move. Something is not adding up here. I would call the health department/code enforement if the water quality was really the issue. Good luck with her. --108.51.xxx.xxx

Just to clarify a couple of things. A friend of mine on Facebook, NO relation to any of the players on here re housing, had HER cat killed by a roaming pitbull. My point being that they are dangerous and I would NOT agree to allow hers. I don't think the dog was even hers, her sons, is my guess. He is a long distance truck driver & will be there occasionally.

I did rent to her because she is a life long county resident, I checked her references. The property is a half mile from us and we keep an eye on it. --71.219.x.x
