We have a new resident who moved in a month ago. She is asking if we can pay for the installation of a phone jack as there is none in her apartment. Are we required to offer a hard wired land line?

Whe a home is returned to us-- ALL CABLES are taken off the house. Tenants hae called and asked where is the connection and there told if you want hard line call phone company and they'll put one in for you (no charge from them) --99.103.xxx.xxx |

This is a very state specific question. Unless someone from NH drops by you will have to look it up in your states’ landlord/tenant law.
However, my guess is that it is a requirement. As a country we haven’t reached the sophistication of China where everyone does have a cell phone and all money transactions are conducted using them. --70.16.xx.xxx |

In my town, you can't have DSL if you also don't have a landline.
Likewise, landlines are useful during emergency situations-- when the power goes out, you can still make a phone call. So that's important, if you're ever in a situation where the power is out, the cell towers are out, and so on.
I think I've installed maybe one phone jack in the last 8 years... I think all I had to pay for was the stuff on the "inside" part of the house; the phone company paid for all the wires that actually made it work. I can't remember if the labor was charged to the phone bill, or if it came to me, or if it was absorbed by the phone company.

Catlyn,here In Connecticut I have all kinds of phone lines running through the walls,but when someone calls for a phone the company puts a new one in for the customer,no charge at time of hookup..............would be the same up your way,I'd guess.......charlie..............wouldn't worry too much about it..................... --174.199.xx.xxx |

Unless this is recent construction I cannot imagine phone lines are not already there.
In my area the phone company will bring the line to the house but interior wiring is my responsibility.
I would start by calling the phone company and asking about installation. If you give them the address of the house they might be able to tell you what’s already there.
Look for an interface box On the side of the house which faces the utility pole. Hours are normally near the electric meter base
