So let me ask you, how many people have you lost on the way to see an apartment? We had deaths in the family, car accidents, grandmother died, called into work, family emergencies. Why can't they just say, totally forgot about seeing your apt, we changed our mind, took another apt, had no intention of ever keeping the appointment, etc. --74.104.xxx.xxx

I was able to dodge a bullet once when a woman and her "special" son wanted to see an apartment. He was older and sounded scary. I was in a bind and she was pushy and had to make an appointment. She never showed and never called me. Whew. She called next day to reschedule and I told her I don't reschedule when someone stands me up like that and wastes my time. She was mad! But on the phone I said that the number one reason to reject a tenant is if they don't keep an appointment and don't call. Shows a lack of concern. --73.178.xxx.xx

Back when I showed homes 90% of my folks must have died on tje dricve over or were abducted by aliens cuz they just disappeared.

Around three times I made definite appointments with people wanting to rent one of my apartments. They searched me out and got my phone number from other tenants, ads or online websites. Their schedules were tight and they requested a time that was inconvenient for me, but I made an exception and showed up 15 minutes early to each appointment. These were no show's. They didn't even call me to let me know they were running late or they cancelled my appointment.

One of these no shows came the next day at a scheduled "open house". When she saw have awesome my building and other tenants were, she put in an application. I noticed that her phone number matched my no show list. I rejected her application on the spot as an irresponsible unreliable person. She file a complaint that I discriminated against "women".

Another no show came two weeks after the appointment and saw I had rented the unit to someone else and filed a discrimination claim that I wouldn't rent to them. My phone records showed conversations two weeks earlier. The said they showed up and I wouldn't give them an application. I told the law firm representing them that if they showed up, where was my filer that I was passing out and was also on the kitchen counter? Also that I had a pile of applications, they could have just taken one.

Just last night, I had someone call me at 5:00. They were in Town A, were going to Town B to pick up their girlfriend, and would be driving to my place in Town C to check out my vacancy.

I did the math. "Okay, so it takes 20 minutes to get from A to B, and then another 30 minutes to get from B to C. I'll see you in about an hour-- sometime between 6:15-6:30? Call me when you're about 5 minutes away."

I had to be out anyways, so I went and parked outside the house at that time period. And waited. And waited. And waited. No show.

Got a call from him around 7-something. "I'm so sorry. Right after I hung up with you, I got called in to handle an emergency at work. Can I try again tomorrow?"

One of the worst ones I ever had was many years ago. I received a phone call from someone who really wanted to see my house, they were parked right in front of it, could they see it then?

Since I lived very near and needed to stop by there anyway, I told them I would be there in five minutes.

I arrived at the house less than five minutes later. They were gone and didn't return --136.33.xx.xx

They are renting in Heaven ? I too read the newspaper the very next day hoping to read the story about the relative that didn't make it and keep everyone from arriving on time, paying Bill's etc. Have yet to find the information...so I never know where to send the flowers. --99.203.xx.xxx

When you're scheduling an appointment with a prospective tenant, tell them that you'll call or text them to confirm 30 minutes before your scheduled appointment and that if you don't hear from them, you won't show. Explain to them that no-shows are prevalent in this line of work and a huge time waster. If they confirm with you 30 minutes before and they still don't show, only wait 10 minutes and then leave. If they call or text you and say "I'm here," tell them you had other appointments and had to leave but they can call you to reschedule anytime.
