There is no wage garnishment in NC for unpaid rents. If you have wage garnishment in your state please comment on whether or not it helps with collections. --184.2.xxx.xxx |

We can garnish in CO. I've done it once, collected full amount due. I'm 99% sure I'll be doing another one soon. --174.209.x.xx |

As Sisco mentioned, yes Missouri allows this and yes we get quite a few dollars out of it. We can also seize bank accounts and personal property.
Missouri is sometimes called the "Show-Me" state. I also like to think of us as the "Show Me The Money" state. ;-) --173.19.x.xxx |

We can garnish here. I've done it successfully a few times and not so successful a few times. By far, I'm up more than I've paid. So yes, definitely worth it. --98.175.xxx.xxx |

I can garnish wages in NY and do it pretty regularly,in order to go after a bank account they have to have more than about $1700 so I haven't done that in awhile --72.231.xxx.xxx |

So given that we can't garnish here, it has driven me over the years to tighten up screening by seeking out training (Mr.LL Boot Camp! and Mr. LL Conventions) and using technology to screen screen screen.
As a result, I rent to people who would CARE if I filed a Small Claims lawsuit against them, or if I reported their debt to collections or credit bureaus (which I state in my lease: if all debts due under the lease are not paid, that debt will be reported to all three credit bureaus.) --50.82.xxx.xx |

W, I think that I have come to the same place in my screening.
Wage garnishment is a sure tell of a screening mistake, and is merely damage control. Much better to avoid the issue. --72.172.xxx.xx |

For the folks from NC... would you support wage garnishment legislation by contacting legislators and lobbying? --174.193.xxx.xxx |

What wage garnishment does , is let you move in less than perfect instead of waiting 6 months for perfect to show up. Less than perfect will lessen your vacancies (my biggest expense) and you do get paid (with interest) it just takes a little more effort. --108.51.xxx.xxx |
