Hello everyone, i am a new owner/1st time home buyer, i live in MA, i was thinking into install the Comcast Home Security system, i own a 2 family unit with a finish attic and a big yard/parking, when the Comcast tech came, they said they cannot install the cameras because they were common areas, i liked the idea of this services because they are connected to the police... Any ideas, recommendations?

Huh? I don't get it. They won't install cameras in common areas?! Where else would you put them? Do they want to put them in private areas? I'm not familiar with that company.

I really like my Nest cameras. I installed them myself where I want them. They run on the Wifi, send me alerts, and I can see the video from my phone or computer, and go back to the time of an incident and make a video clip I can share with others (police). --68.10.xxx.x

Like so many things we encounter in this business, we have to do it ourselves. Welcome to the business Cesar [MA], you can learn a lot by stopping in here and reading but it is no replacement for intimate knowledge of your own local and state tenant laws - I often suggest downloading them and placing into a 3ring binder, flip over for the local rules to prevent mixups, legal help is the most expensive hourly helper we have, by reading your rules and visiting court often you should overcome that expense and if you do find yourself needing legal help you can already observe which lawyer will be effective in court. --76.188.xxx.xx

I think Cesar meant to say "not is common areas". Let's see when he returns with an update/comment.

I too have a system that I ran and updated over the past 17 years. I run 18 high definition cameras placed strategically around my owner occupied property that covers COMMON areas around the building, garages, and parking area. I do have one camera in the basement which is unoccupied and considered a common area.

Over the years I recorded many interesting things that I could write a book on. Everything from crime in the hood out in the front to wild bears roaming on the property.

I'm not a fan of an elaborate security system with camera's everywhere. Only in larger building with lots of tenants. In my smaller properties I just hide a few nature cameras that I set on taking a picture (any time of day) with motion. The battery's are good for six months and my SD card can take 1000 plus pictures.

My a tenants car got broken into during the night, she wanted to move not have a garage space -- only in the carport area. So gave this tenant a garage space and pulled my memory SD card. I used her computer and downloaded the pictures of that evening and together we saw who it was. An x-boy friend who wanted a CD back that he gave to her in years past. I wanted to file a police report but the tenant said, she had caused the break-up and never returned his calls. --47.156.xx.xx

Installing a security camera system is not rocket science where can easily buy a high resolution camera system for around $500 or less. View some videos on You Tube. Three connections to each camera. Video, audio and power. Rough in then connect up. --147.194.xxx.xx

Thank you guys for all your replies, i thought that as a home owner i was able to put cameras to cover any area inside of my house fence: main entrance, parking lot, etc etc, i don't want to cover the sidewalks neither the streets, it just my perimeter...

"Robert J" that is a good idea, thanks for sharing.

"Robert Ontario" Yes i know is not rocket science, but the idea of having those cameras thru comcast was because if anything happened in my perimeter, it will alert the authorities..

"Allym" I can't complain about the cable, but the internet sucks, i used to have Verizon way back.

"John" Those are the areas that i will like to cover...

"DJ VA" i was exploring the option of NEST cameras. --66.30.xxx.x
