Somebody is getting in my property and vandalizing it, I know who it is, but need to prove it, I have cameras, but he covers his face, my question is, is there something I can spray or put on door handles to get his fingerprints? Any ideas?

Have him followed and photo'd as he comes onto your property and starts his destruction. It would be much more damming than any fingerprints you may or may not get.

Call the police, take a report and request they get the fingerprints. You taking them doesn't do any good. --99.182.xx.xxx

For small crimes like vandalism, the police rarely bother with fingerprints. Plus, that persons fingerprints have to be on file somewhere for them to run the prints and find the person. There are also vinyl gloves that everyone wears for a lot of activities.

You mention door handles, are the doors locked and being opened by a key? change the lock. Find out how they are getting in and do something to stop that. The other thing is motion alarms that notify the police or even the neighbors that someone is there. In our area we can ask for extra police patrols to check on the property more often and more in depth when they are vacant or people are away. --108.44.xx.xxx

I would spray or rub some dog crap on the handles and see if he uncovers his face to deal with that. --73.178.xxx.xx

HAHAHA oh AllyM that's funny. I was thinking something sticky to put on the handles so if they are wearing gloves they'll remove them.

Or better yet, do something like what the kid did in the movie Home Alone did - if he's entering through a door put up a bunch of those fly strips so when he opens the door and walks through they will just hit him in the face … maybe lay them (or something sticky on sarin wrap on the floor so it sticks to his feet/legs).

If it's through the windows or whatever - same thing. --69.201.xx.xxx

I have a traveling tenant who is rarely home who notices food missing each time she return from a trip. I've re-keyed the lock several times. So I made one final suggestion. Laxatives in the food and removal of toilet paper from the bathroom.

A local homeless man was climbing in and out a side window. But after eating some food and having the "runs" he left through the front door, getting caught on my security camera in the common hallway. --47.156.xx.xx

Install high resolution security camera system which is going to deter vandals as criminals do not want to be seen. You tube will have videos on different topics. --207.164.xxx.xxx

I LOVE AllyM's and cjl's ideas. Maybe vaseline? Anything to disrupt him and maybe capture his face. The hanging things would probably make him look up to see what it is.

OR: if it's a fairly predictable time that he enters, you could camp out one night and let him hear the unmistakable sound of a shotgun cocking as he enters. (just kidding - sort of. Don't put yourself in danger)

If you know the person's name/address, leave a personal note for him to stay out, where he is sure to find it.

Move the cameras.

Install a loud noise - maker on a motion sensor. --68.10.xxx.x

JB(OR**)

I was going to hired somebody to do exactly what you suggested, but I don't know when he is going to strike again.

Britt(NC)

The police wouldn't do anything.

Linda(NY**)

Yes, the doors are locked, but he is very good breaking bottom locks, and the top he has a way to unlock it (he probably has some kind of key that opens any lock.

I just installed a motion alarm.

I have very good cameras, but he covers his face.

DJ(VA)

I confront him, and it got worse.

I appreciate all of your advice, I want to get this guy arrested and will try everything possible.

Mary, you mentioned that you contacted him before and it got worse...

What if you could give him a push to do it again soon by contacting him and irritate him to the point where he wants to come back right away to mess with you?

Of course, you would want to have him and his place set up to be photographed before and while he was placing something over his head to cover his face in order to prove who he is.

This is not likely to be cheap, but could provide satisfaction if you catch him in the act. And you may be able to sue him for the costs and damages involved. It could come down to how badly you want to get him. --50.45.xxx.xx

Yes. There is a purple something that isn't purple until touched. So it stains their hands. Google search some police tactics supplies or maybe someone on here knows the product . --99.203.xx.xxx
