I went by my property and see this huge tree toppled over. It sits on a wooded lot. I call the county and was told it’s own by a private owner and was given the address. How would you handle? I have done a google search, white pages look up but no success. Would you go to this man’s house? Should I file with my carrier and let them subrogate? I mean this is a huge tree. No damage to the inside. Landed on my ac but still runs. Also hit my gutters. Not sure if any other roof damage. Thanks --166.137.xxx.xx

I'd have someone cut and haul off the part of the tree on my property and leave his part of the tree on his property and be done with it.

A falling tree is an act of god most likely in your state, which means wherever it falls, it's that person's responsibility to clean it up. I had a monster tree fall from the corner of a neighbors yard completely onto my garage... that was a bad deal --173.24.xxx.xxx

Yep, one of those Acts of God almost killed me in 2010. I was filling bird feeders in the lull of a storm. The owner of the tree had chopped a lot of the roots out so his lawn would be flat. I saw that a year or so before but who would I call to complain? Anyway, I heard my dead father say, Get the Hell out of there and I ran in the house. The big half dead wild cheery crushed the bird feeder I was about to fill. Yes, it was my responsibility to remove the bulk of the tree and insurance paid for it even though it was not mine. Insurance also paid to fix the edge of the roof that it took down. If it had killed me I would not have had to go through big cancer surgery and the recovering but I would not want to die crushed in mud and bird seed by a tree, that's for sure. I did what 22 said and had the trunk taken out of my yard and left the stump for the owner. --73.178.xxx.xx
