I need to find someone and talk to them but I don’t know who they are, where they are, how to get hold of them.

Need your input. Best way to explain is to tell you the story.

I had a package shipped to me by USPS (US postal service) last Tuesday June 5, 2018. Brother sent it to me and has a tracking number for me to use.

I went on line and did the tracking thing.

It was received by the Post Office (PO) at 9:35AM Tuesday June 5, 2018.

It departed PO at 10:19 AM Tuesday June 5, 2018

Arrived PO regional distribution center ST Louis 11:05 PM June 5, 2018

In transit to next facility June 6, 2018

In transit to next facility June 7, 2018

In transit to next facility June 8, 2018.

Last entry in history. The item is currently in transit to next facility June 8, 2018

There are no other entries in the tracking history.

Keep in mind. Mailed from SE MO to St Louis ~150 miles

Was to go from St Louis to Springfield MO ~220 miles

No one in any of the Post Offices we contacted (called SE MO, St Louis, Springfield) could help us find the package or where it is located.

My help needed from you. I want to call a PO inspector general, a post office claims department, a post office fraud department, PO FBI, PO EPA, PO DNR, ANYBODY.

Can someone give me a name or a number I could contact that could help solve the problem where package is located.

I would print out the tracking info and take it to your local post office - see the postmaster and tell them the story. Apparently it didn't make it past the 8th. However signed for it last is responsible.

I've had them sit 4-5 days at along the way.

It's coming. It will be delivered today. Could take 7 to 9 days to travel the short distance. It seems odd but it takes more time than if you drove it yourself and planned lunch with the St.Louis landlords.

I will share your frustration with USPS as i had similar experience and it is hard to figure out how to complain about it... We all need that system um?

I went to my local post office when something I mailed was very late. They will notify a postmaster.

You can also go online to USPS I forget if it is .com or ,gov. YOu file a complaint online and you will get a call from a postoffice employee the next day and maybe the post office master from the last place it was.

It may be stuck on a truck or fell behind something in the last post office where it was. So all these are places that can be driven and no airplane involved?

What kind of address label does it have? If it's a PO label it won't fall off or be pulled off by equipment. I hope it was not wrapped in paper because that gets caught in machinery.

How was it sent? Priority Mail With Automatic $50 Insurance? Did y'all boost the insurance to whatever the value of the package was worth? Or was it just ordinary First Class/Media/Whatever's Cheapest Today?

If it was Priority Mail, you should have had it in 1-3 days, and I would probably make that my talking point when I stopped by my local post office with my tracking printed out.

"Hey, I was expecting this by the 8th or 9th, because it was mailed on the 5th. You haven't seen it, have you? It was mailed Priority, and it seems to be stuck. When I call, people are having trouble figuring out what happened."

I've had packages that seemed to be stuck indefinitely as well, but they were usually International packages that had to wait while a shipping container was filled. :)

One of the cool things is when packages actually get misdelivered. When you go to the office and say, "My tracking says it was delivered, but I never got it," they have the GPS coordinates of where it was dropped off. So that makes it easy for them to figure out that they accidentally dropped it off at 501 S Main rather than 501 N Main, or 110 N Main instead of 710 N Main or whatever. Then they'll send the deliverer out to re-claim it, rather than me having to go out to a random stranger and ask for my package back. :)

Lots of good ideas. When I was reading this morning about lost mail I saw where the PO scans or x-rays lost packages to see what is inside. TECHNOLOGY. Didn’t know they did that. Also, as you mentioned didn’t know they had the GPS system to tell them where they left a package.

We send a lot of priority express envelopes weekly. They misplace on average one every 3 weeks unless you want Saturday am and then the odds increase. Guaranteed next day delivery can take up to 3 to 4 days when it's misplaced. A few have never been found.

The place to call is the last distribution center as shown on the tracking notice. They are not only your best bet they are the only ones who will have a clue. I suggest you get a bottle of your favorite beverage put the phone on speaker and catch up on your reading while you are on hold and transferred from manager to manager.

Don't bother calling the 800 number unless you enjoy chasing your own tale.

For those who ask why not use FedEx or UPS instead. Same odds of lost/misrouted packages. However the benefit of paying double the cost they do seem to have a slightly better system of routing you to the correct department which is not to be interpreted as getting faster or better results.

I just ordered a pair of bathtub feet from a guy in PA. I ordered the night of Sunday the 10th; it was given to USPS by 3:00 in the afternoon on the 11th; it was in my mailbox at 9 am in TX today, Wed the 13th. Woohoo, 1500 miles, Priority Mail! I can't even leave feedback until the 16th, it shipped so fast. :)

I sent us a postcard from the Chesapeake Bay area. Dropped it in the mailbox Sunday the 3rd. It finally arrived-- no postmark-- on Wed the 13th. :) 1500 miles, First Class mail. :)

It's really hard to predict how fast or slow something will travel.
