Sometimes, it is obviously that some prospects plan to move more people in, but they just do not want to admit it.

One prospect living with girl friend, but apply to our place with brother and still listing girl friend as emergency contacts.

One apply with his brother, I asked the brother to apply, then he said brother will not move in.

Is it OK not to rent to two roommates because they will move GF in or move out? --97.91.xxx.xxx

Well i don't like it. And i try and avoid it. But if they are already in and place is kept nice and all is civil and rent paid on time. I may avoid rocking the boat. For new move in-s... Usually one can not qualify to pay the rent alone. So the weed themselves out. Havea house that i just rented and she flat out wrote, four adults but she would be the only one on the lease. So I'll take four application fees, and only screen her and reject. Can't tell them any different, could be discrimination. Is that your concern? --99.203.xx.xxx

I am afraid discrimination charge, but I really think roommates are more work and unstable. I tell them "No" or 4xrent for move in. Like to know how other landlords handle the situation. --97.91.xxx.xxx

Decades ago, a landlord of many apartment complexes in great parts of San Francisco had the following in her lease clause in capital letters: "No overnight guests."

Like Plenty noted, if the tenant is pays rent dutifully, quiet, doesn't cause problems, then it would be your call.

If lots of people are applying for your unit, is there a way to deny the prospect on other grounds?

Best of luck and hope you rent the unit to a good tenant. --67.164.xx.xx

You should be using an exclusive use lease to avoid this nonsense, parking verification helps also, change the color every 3 months using at least 6 colors. --76.188.xxx.xx
