Here's what BRAD 20,000 said on the subject:(hope you don't mind Brad) We use SimpliSafe systems for our storage and our flips. It can have up to 5 cameras, protect an exterior camera from the elements.
Ring’s video is stored in the cloud if theu steal the thing.
I just bought REX on Amazon at the advice of a friend. Realistic German shepherd barking, motion/ inration activated. He says it scares away his contractors and MY dog thought it was real.
Overall,
1 Think like a thief. Proper planning is your first line of defense. A fellow rehabber lost $5000 of tools. My first thought? You left $5000!!! worth of tools in an an obvious project house, in the hood, overnight??
2. ARMOR the house
-deadbolts, not knobs
-bar the doors. Z brackets and a 2x6.
-black plywood inside the windows. We go about half high so we still get light and the black looks like regular windows from the outside.
-NO TOOLS or ladders EVER left at the site, not even in closets. They will tear up my $450 new door to steal a 59 cent screwdriver if they can see it.
-no materials left in site. We will store paint, spackle in closets, but not ceiling fans, lights, hardware, appliances...
-screw down stoves to the floor
-too much copper to replace with pex? Smear tar on it or at least spray paint it black.
Outta sight and outta mind.. and If they break in, there is nothing to steal.
Hope this helps!

Spellcheck! Rex is motion and VIBRATION activated.
To clarify: we don’t bring in the tempting items until they can be installed.
Also,
NEVER trust your contractors. The guy you hire can be great but he brings in lowlife helpers. I can trace significant thefts back to hired help. They have access to keys, lockboxes, supplies, storage, etc.
A fellow rehabber uses the rule if anything is stolen the contractor is instantly fired. It is the contractor’s responsibility to secure the building and the materials.
