Is it discrimination if you inadvertently block an applicant's phone number before they can call back for a showing or to put in an application?

Sorta. They were looking for a short term rental and husband had a 1099 job. Wife didn't know where the husband worked and had to ask him. They were deadbeats that I don't want to take up time with, but couldn't find a clear cut out. --207.172.xx.xxx |

This is for the rooming house. Even there I'm looking at folks who can stay at least 6 months. The room I'm filling has had someone in it for 8 months. --207.172.xx.xxx |

Yes it is discrimination.
But I don’t think it is illegal discrimination. --72.172.xxx.xx |

It's not discrimination if they don't meet your criteria, another word for needs. They want short term. You don't. End of story. I let a guy screen himself out over the weekend. Carpet measure guy said he had bad credit. When I told him my tenants were noisy downstairs, he said he liked quiet. When I said they had a motorcycle, he said he hoped they didn't start it at five in the morning. I said I can't control that 100 percent. Then he wanted an application. If I overlook the bad credit from a divorce, he still said he doesn't like the folks downstairs. So why would I rent to him. --69.141.xxx.xxx |

When I put a phone number out there on a rental, I NEVER use my cell phone or house phone number. Instead I have a VOIP (Voice Over Internet) number with call forwarding. I order a number, link it to any of my numbers and within hours I have my call back number or number I use to call the applicants. --47.156.xx.xx |

Tenantwhisperer....The same for me. Lots of contacts that start w N. Lol.
Robert CA, Seems like I used to do that too. I had a Google number for each house. I don't remember why I stopped. Probably because it was just too much to keep up with and too confusing. I would be curious why you use a VOIP number. --74.124.xxx.xxx |
