So, I got a call from my MIL this evening.

"I was looking at the houses for sale in our town online, and I came across your house at [address]. It's not for sale, is it?"

She was looking at Trulia. It was the house I had posted to Zillow last November. Trulia had all my interior pics, my original description for the house, and so on. It was marked as being "Off Market" and made up some sum about the "Trulia Estimate"-d value of what it would sell for if it was for sale, so I explained what had probably happened, and we had a laugh.

Interestingly enough, I had also set up a garage apartment at the same time. Trulia didn't retain the information on that one-- possibly because the appraisal district doesn't have an independent entry for its physical address?

Glancing around the rest of my town, I noticed a house across the street from one of mine that I knew one of the local rent-to-own guys had picked up last year. He bought it back in August, 2017-- Trulia is showing it as being bank-owned as of Thanksgiving, 2017.

Noticed a photo of another house listed as a bank foreclosure for 30 days. It's a series of three lots on a corner; and he probably spent five figures within the last four years fencing his place with a really snazzy fence. I'm like, "Woah! That one's been foreclosed on?" I pop onto Google Maps to check the photo. No, his property is 1001, 1003, and 1005, and the foreclosed house is 1013-- and is one that went up for tax sale back in February.

So, these RE websites are cool... but they try to cling to so much information, that it turns into bloat and the information stops being useful. I found it a little annoying that they retained my personal photos even after I removed my listing from the market, but I'm sure that was in the TOS when I made my original posting with Zillow. But just seeing all the misinformation-- whether an error of not matching a photo to an address, or posting outdated information as a current status, or just making up random information with nothing to base it on-- makes me cautious about their overall reliability.

It's not the first time I've noticed unreliable information on Zillow or Trulia or whatever-- there's the house I bought in 2015 that's listed as still being under foreclosure, but it hasn't been a foreclosure since 2014. But it's the first time I got a phone call over it. --96.46.xxx.xx

Trulia and Zillow are only for finding old information that should have been removed LOL! I can still find the photos of a house we sold in 2010. It was foreclosed on, sold again, and the photos are still there.

Realtor.com seems to be more accurate for current stuff. --50.82.xxx.xx

I mean we sold it, THEN it was foreclosed on by that buyer, THEN sold again. --50.82.xxx.xx

From time to time, we run move-in specials on our apartments, with deadline dates. The last time we did it, it ended January 31, 2018. By the way, we screen extra carefully when we run these specials, to weed out the deadbeats. I keep getting calls from people wanting the move-in special. I can't find the ad, but apparently, they can. I explain to them, if they read the ad thoroughly, it ended the end of January. But, just picked up a great tenant, who was not "mad" about the ad, was just looking to save a little money, if he could. Cha Ching!
