I must be living wrong. Just finished my third main sewer line declogging this month.

I've gone 5 years without ANY sewer clogs.

All are septic tanks. Two had to be pumped. Not too bad. The third had roots growing in the inlet pipe. Since I had to dig it up anyway, I cut the pipe to install another cleanout at that point. That's where the "fun" began.

The pipe was flooded, filled to the same level as inside the tank... the hole flooded to that level also. I had to work in 12 inches of... yeah.

But I got it done. And took 3 showers. And threw away those clothes.

What will tomorrow bring? Hopefully not more....of that stuff.

Yuck! Definitely the type of thing to hire out.

My mother always said bad things come in threes. So hopefully, you are done for a while. (I don't really believe her superstition, though) --68.10.xxx.xxx

How handy of you! I hope everything's good for the next 5 years and more!

How much would it cost to hire that sort of thing out... and would it be worth it to avoid the ick factor? :) --96.46.xxx.xx

I have to wonder how high is your table on this property.

It seems like maybe you are getting surface water int your system along with affluent.

Your drain lines should be draining - assuming they have plenty of gravel and the ground perks, your lines might be plugged.

You can use a product called root X to kill root systems. You may need additional gravel on your existing pipe or need to tamp on the end of the current line and add to it.

Our SEOs allow you to repair one line at a time. So you might want to fix each of the three laterals - one at a time --24.101.xxx.xxx

This system is very old. Much older than the house. It's hand laid cinderblocks mortared together. It has root intrusion.

Sooner or later I'm going to have to replace it. Today is not that day.

I put 2 pounds of rootX in and will do the same quarterly for a year at least. --98.122.x.xx

gevans, when is enough for you? It seems like we LL never give up no matter how well off we are..

I recently did a sewage unclogging (tied to city). the cleanout was at basement floor, the roof drain was tied to the sewer line and it was raining hard when I discovered the clog.. That was one of the worst I deal with.. I had to throw away my shoes and my clothes and air out the basement for days.. --71.232.xxx.xxx

I paid to have this same job done 5 years ago. They only did the minimum, and now I'm doing it again.

I wanted it done right this time, so I did it myself. I normally don't do these myself, but I hate with a passion doing the same job over again because it was not done right the first time. --98.122.x.xx

Gevans -- all your experience all these years? Of course they can't do it as good/well that's why you need to be there (since your paying for it) telling them HOW to DO it RIGHT-- the way the man paying for it WANTS IT.

It looks like I will not be attending the convention with delayed planting this year so I will share here what I was gonna pass along at one of the meal table. I too have made the slip-n-slide into the stink pit trying to measure pipes gozinta and gozouta, I use 10-12 foot 2x4 over the area and tie up the new pipes with roll of fence wire - you must turn each termination downward so you don't tear thru a glove and tear your skin open, having a couple extra planks helps when you pulling yourself out, I use the green bag mortar to seal the pipes, you can use 2inch foam to seal the sides of the tank - no pressure so they stay for years just backfill and if the box leaks well the stuff just drips out early. --76.188.xxx.xx
