I am sure all Doctors office shreds all your medical records as they also have your SSN. Never a need to go back and check any thing out --71.29.x.xx

Let her know that her application will be kept with her lease, in a safe with all the other sensitive information. She just wants to make sure it's not going to be mishandled. --108.69.xxx.xxx

If you make a copy you could shred one, they have to be locked up to comply with the patriot act of 2005. --76.188.xxx.xx

You need to keep the applications in a locked drawer; you NEED to keep SS# in case you ever have to file for $$ when they walk out and leave you high and dry!

NO WAY!! I have kept all of them since I started.

I've found the paranoid SSN folks usually don't make it past the screening. Not sure why, but they are flaky most of the time. --50.107.xxx.xxx

I told an applicant that they would put their social security on a 3 x 5 card and not on the application. That when I was through with processing their application, I would return the card with their social security number. What they didn't know is that their SSN was going to show up on their credit report anyways and that I would keep in my files. --47.156.xx.xx

I never dispose of applications or leases. I keep them in an encrypted folder on my PC.

Tell your tenant that you must retain all legal documents that pertain to the lease for a minimum of 3 years. --71.75.xx.xx
