I just got a call looking for carpet free housing. Nope, this house is carpeted.

Well, it will be OK if it is pet free. Nope, current tenants have two house dogs and there was a cat before that.

Tenant is allergic to dogs and has asthma attack when exposed to dogs. So he calls me back and says he will take the house anyway. I am to have a deep professional cleaning and the allergy treatment carpet cleaning and then the house will be ok.

Nope. I'm not investing a lot of extra money for deep cleaning just to have the tenant discover they have allergies to something else and insist on moving out. Not to mention the entitlement attutude. --174.216.x.xxx

I am going carpet free, but I don't tear out good new condition carpet to do it. I pull out carpet when the tenants have damaged it and it is time to replace it.

Not to mention, I try not to get stuck with tenants who think they deserve expensive special treatment. --174.216.x.xxx

This was taken from another carpet posting --> Long ago in a world somewhere away (key in the music from Mel Brooks spaceballs movie) there was a planet that used that soft magnet for stains (now the flying Winnebago comes slowly sliding across the screen), this material was also well adapted to absorbing stinky stains (now the interior shows John Candy and others staring thru the window into the future), suddenly they fly into the next aisle at HomeDepot and see another floating item (the movie has now ended abruptly, the credits are rolling at light speed) called Allure, this space age product aims to make floor cleaning almost as quick as space travel - wink wink and you or the tenant can roll out an area rug, that was some great ginger ale... --76.188.xxx.xx

V, while that is always a fun read, this tenant would probably have a 'reaction' to the out-gassing of the vinyl, lol!

This fits with my ' you should' denial. Three 'You shoulds,' and I'm done. Tenant didn't even view the property, and was already past 'you should' into 'you will.'

Good on you OregonWoodsmoke. --172.56.xx.xxx

Allergy sufferers would even complain about a brand new house.

If you want to consider this tenant, ask him to come and physically look at the place. Don't deal with tire kickers. --99.59.x.xxx

Just dealt with an asthmatic tenant with a cat allergy. Had the carpet cleaned and they cleaned it again to their specifications. Asthmatic tenant did fine in my unit for seven months and then started smoking skunky pot. I found the smell and complained so they moved out. They were out of my building for a week and the asthmatic ended up in the hospital for six days as she was having an attack and they could not get her stabilized. Thank goodness that happened AFTER they were out of my building. Downstairs tenant saw them smoking in their car to keep the smell out of the house. Asthmatics should not smoke pot. --69.141.xxx.xxx

I think this would be like a person in a wheelchair. I would have to accept the ramp built on my rental property, but they would have to pay for it and remove it when they leave.

I would think all the allergy treatments would be on them. I once had a woman with allergies who asked permission to have the vents cleaned at their expense. I didn't have a problem with that. --108.69.xxx.xxx
