The convention is only a few weeks away. Time to get your notepads and sharpen your pencils
This isn't a vacation!
If you're on the fence about going, maybe some folks will share their reasons as to why they find it beneficial.
For me, landlording is a very singular business. Besides on the forum and a little bit at your local REIA, it is just you. The convention is a great way to get around like minded people from all areas, age groups, and walks of life. That is priceless.
I also enjoy putting faces to the names I see here.
This will be my 4th convention and I already know that seeing folks I have met before, will be more like a reunion than a multi day seminar.
You can crack jokes and have a conversation with them like you've known them for years.
It really is an interesting experience. I encourage folks to attend. --97.35.xx.xxx |

This will be my rookie year for the convention. Really looking forward to it!
I'm going to learn as much as possible. Just when I think I've seen it all, I get a new one. I'm looking forward to hearing some others' stories and funnies as well as how it was handled.
I am also looking forward to meeting the folks here face to face.
See you there! --98.175.xxx.xxx |

Most if not all of the reasons I’m going we’re outkined by NE. LLing can be a lonely business and getting around like-minded people for a few days is a big plus for me. I also try to take advantage of any chance I get to learn a few things. It will only take one really good idea to make the trip worthwhile from a learning perspective. --166.137.xxx.xx |

I view it like a trade show, and in some ways it literally is. The difference with our "trade" vs. many others is that we are not manufacturing a product: we are providing a service (housing), although some of us are quasi-manufacturers (like NE who rehabs a lot).
Learn new tricks, get creative juices flowing.
My main problem when coming back from the Convention is which idea to try out first. I still have note pads full of stuff from past Conventions I haven't had a chance to flesh out and try to monetize yet. --173.17.xx.xx |

Learning and networking.
I went to my first convention 7 years ago. At the time, I was struggling in my business and had a tiny network of like minded people in the business which I interacted with.
From that one convention, I started reading books again and learning. I was totally stagnant in these areas and it's fueled me quite a bit.
I think I've been to 4 or 5 more since then. It's proven worth it every time since! --173.24.xxx.xxx |

Having people you can trust that you can use as a sounding board is invaluable.
Say I have an awesome idea that I am not sure exactly how to implement. I suppose I could ask one of my LOCAL competitors about it........that isn't a smart move. It is great to have resources available to be able to pick up the phone and ask someone.
Today, I had a rental lead that I was following up and by simply asking just a few more probing questions, I was able to 1) rule them out as my tenants 2) line them up with a subject to investor that knew how to handle estate cases. 3) and do so with out upsetting anyone.
The only one who wasn't a big winner was me....and instead I made my life that much easier in the future so that was even a victory in its own way. --24.101.xxx.xxx |

I'm on a streak. I went to the "1st Annual Mr. LL Convention" in 2002; haven't missed one yet. I know the year because I was organizing my office books recently and discovered my "1st annual..." three ring folder.
I had to laugh when I read "first annual". I don't like not being the young guy in the room anymore, but at least each year I get richer.
I went to a psudo real estate Real Estate meeting in Denver recently, and some young guy asked me when I got started and I said 20 years ago. He said wow you must have been the first guy ever to do this. I thought wow do some kids think nothing happened before they were born.
I'll have to look in Wikipedia and see if my name comes up as "the first real estate investor 1998". --98.245.xxx.xx |

I’m going to see YOU! NE! And all my friends here, too many to list.
Convention gets me energized for another year with fresh ideas and encouragement to press on.
Like Lee says, I can mark the forward leaps in our profitability to eac Convention.
I am a seminar junkie and THIS ONE is the BEST!! Jeffrey runs a class act.
Be sure to get the lunch deal and stay in the host hotel so you have more time to mingle with speakers and make new freinds, and stay up late for The Meeting After The Meeting where I always learn.
Whatever it takes...get there!

I've said it a hundred times: our first Convention (2010 Jacksonville) literally changed our lives. Certainly saved our landlording careers. I was open-mouthed at the lessons learned.
Up until that time we were really struggling and wondering what kind of mess we had gotten ourselves into. We'd been attempting to do it "on our own" since 2003...seven years of pain!
Just TWO years later - hard to believe that - DH was able to quit his day job, our business blossomed and we were full-time landlords. We are now grossing more than we ever did at our W-2 jobs...and practically debt-free.
Since that first one, we have only missed a few and we regret missing those! We've also gone to the Boot Camp (also not to be missed especially for new landlords but also for those who need SYSTEMS to better run their biz) and one of the excellent Landlord retreats. We are signed up for both the Convention and the 2019 retreat this year. --50.82.xxx.xx |

No one around me is talking real estate without trying to sell me something.
And yes, I counting this as a vacation, because for me a vacation is about new stuf to remember and I will have a lot of this after a convention! --174.203.x.xx |

I have not yet been to a convention, just user group meetings for Appfolio. I wonder if this comment board is moderated. I will test it out by pointing out that while $199 may seem like a pretty good deal, if there are no professional speakers at this meeting (real estate lawyers, economists, marketing professionals, etc.) and if it is just an exchange of ideas between landlords mentoring each other, then the thing might be overpriced regardless. --71.121.xxx.xx |

Hi Mark, welcome to the forum. Not only will there be professional speakers, but at this event will be some of the top, most sought after, educators in the real estate education industry over the past 30 years. Go to the website - LandlordConvention.com and click on the instructors tab at the top of the page for more info on them. --172.56.x.xx |

Despite the workload that I have at home, I decided to sign up to attend my very first convention. However, I will only be staying there for the very first day, and then I am heading back. I'm driving in, and it's a 310 mile distance, but the 5.5 hour drive won't at all bother me. For me, getting some educational insight is certainly cheaper than insurance! --99.203.xx.xx |
