Mailed our LLC returns on the 15th of March; we have 4 of them. Mailed each one of them by Certified Mail, with a Return Receipt requested.
Finally got around today to check to see if they were delivered; 2 were finally delivered after one week, and two are still floating around the Cincinnati Post Office. The State returns all made it to the State of Indiana within a few days.
Since they WERE Postmarked on the 15th (the day LLC returns were due), will there be any penalties from the IRS?
Can we get any of the Certified Mail Money back from the Post Office? Spent almost $64 in Postage mailing those suckers off; and it bugs us that we so much money on postage, and we don't get the proper service we should for the money spent.
I will now get off my Soap Box.

You will be fine with the postmark. I mailed a rather large check ( regular mail) to the IRS the first of March, since I don’t like waiting till the last minute. It finally cleared my account last night. They get in no hurry --198.205.xx.xxx |

If this helps, I use USPS Click N Ship from my desktop. I log in the address and click on SIGNATURE REQUIRED.
$9.15 each, pay with credit card, mail carrier picks them up from my mailbox, tracking and signature (IRS's stamp) shows online, no waiting for a return postcard.
This year I put all in one package, no signature for $15.

Sent certified end of February. Same problem, got to Utah, but no delivery noted. Went to PO Friday, Talked to Post Master at the location and another certified mailing as of Friday, FREE, FREE, FREE. Post Master said employee probably did NOT scan when envelope was delivered. Yea, I know overworked! Well, IRS for late returns can charge up to $500 per K-1. So, that amount will get my attention. See if this time around the envelope gets there, Ha! Ha! Had the same problem a few years ago, sent IRS tracking document and all was OK. But, Nice if job was done right the first time! --71.10.xxx.x |

Cleaned up after one tenant who was a mail carrier. In the back of a closet I found a pile of certified mail to various law firms. I turned it over to the Post Office. --69.141.xxx.xxx |
