I bought white Home Depot thermal clad cabinets in 2000 and except for a few corners pealing back they are still good looking They are in apartments where I suspect they get greater wear. --24.34.xx.xxx |

Tenants want new kitchens and baths when they move in, but trash them on the way out. I push for more SD when I have new stuff in the rental.
Eviction judges call it "wear and tear". I call it "abuse", sometimes intentional.
So using inexpensive cabinets in a rental makes more sense. Trouble is: labor cost.

How does Hampton compare to Diamond Now (Lowe's off the shelf cabinets)? --72.188.xxx.xx |

We just updated a singlewide, the first thing you saw when you came in the back door was the press board cabinets with the doors hanging off. Looked awful. It had a 26 year old dishwasher, that my DH wanted to remove anyway, an accident waiting to happen. So looking at that wall you had, from left to right, a refrigerator, dishwasher, small cabinet, & range, all on the same wall.
We removed the dishwasher, bought a 60" cabinet from Lowes, stained it to match what was in there, left the countertop overhang to cover the trashcan under it and it looks fine. We also replaced the range hood, so all black/stainless steel now.
We are very happy with the Lowes base cabinet. It was on sale for $139.00! (plus counter top 69.00) --71.51.xxx.xxx |

We actually re-did my wife's parents' place two years ago with the Hampton Bay cabinets -- did everything -- uppers and lowers. They look great two years later -- no issues at all. Very happy with them.

We've started using the Kitchen Kompact line. A much better cabinet than anything off the shelf at Home Depot or Lowes. Locally we can get them at Menards. And they are cheaper.....go figure. I usually buy on an 11% rebate sale but they are already cheaper than Hampton Bay at regular price.
Wish they had a white finish but we've done about 7 kitchens with them. Couldn't be happier & the Mr. won't go back to the other particle board cabinets. --104.128.xx.xxx |

A better source for cabinets is Granada Wholesale Cabinets, Anaheim, CA. Their cabinets are all plywood and no particle board.
They come unassembled, in various finishes and include all hardware and corners for easy assembly. --99.59.x.xxx |

We use Ikea cabinets in kitchens and bathrooms. They look beautiful and last. Of course, I have really great tenants for the most part. Ikea has at least two 15-20% off sales per year. And often they'll reimburse you for a home measurement and plan once you purchase.
I don't buy the cheapest doors and drawer fronts, but the cabinet boxes are all the same. One plus is you can easily replace the fronts for a new look or if they're damaged. They do discontinue their fronts, but usually the give adequate warnings.
I know this was not the question you asked, but thought I would throw it out there anyhow. --68.42.xxx.xx |

Just one word of caution: the "shrink-wrapped" white cabinets - I believe that's the thermal clad - tend to "melt" when exposed to heat. Example - toaster used right under the cabinet door made the white finish pull away from the corner detail. --68.105.xxx.xxx |
