I’ve had success with muratic acid. Be careful though. Research before using . Dangerous stuff but will get a lot of the oil up --166.137.xxx.xxx

Here's one trick. Concentrated Concrete Cleaner full strength poured over the stain and let it set in for bit. Then use a hand wire brush and give it a sweeping. Apply some TSP in liquid from over the stain and use some more the wire brush. After a short while then pressure wash off the surface..... --47.156.xx.xx

I second Robert's comment. I broke a bottle of cranberry juice in our gorgeous garage and it left a big stain.

We soaked it in TSP, then, packed a poultice of the tsp solution and diatomaceous earth. We let it dry then scraped and vacuumed it up. It got over 90%.

I heard muratic acid too. But you'd want to be very careful. --47.216.xx.xxx

Muratic acid is the nuclear option but it is pretty nasty stuff. The vapors from muratic acid will cook your brain cells. I would use TSP full strength, scrub it in and just let it sit for an hour. Then hose it off. --68.63.xxx.xx

Robert's trick works, that's what I do too: laundry detergent, a wire brush and elbow power. Use very little warm water to get the soap going.

If your driveway has a slop, soaking the oil spot and letting it stand is practically impossible. --99.59.x.xxx

To keep any cleaner in place on a slope, put rags over it, soaked it the cleaner. --172.58.xxx.xx

Nuclear option might be sandblasting but then you would have a different looking, but clean area where the stain was. --67.186.xxx.xxx

Chris,

First scrape off anything you can.

We use powdered Tide on damp concrete, stiff brush, let it soak, work it some more with the brush, repeat, powerwash.

We had big sections of nail polish on our concrete driveway and my husband used a grinder to get big chunks off then we used a pressure washer and that did the trick. It isn’t perfect but it’s a lot better. I had tried bleach and a few other chemicals that did not work. --173.26.xx.xxx

You need an alkaline. Acid won't work for an oil based stain. You need ShoreBest 2790. --75.108.xxx.xx

I had a tenant leave a 30 inch oil stain on the concrete drive. I tried all sorts of stuff that didn't work too well. What did work was I poured a ton of Dawn dishwashing soap directly on the oil. I let it set overnight and then brushed with a stiff brush. Most of it rinsed right off. --24.98.xxx.xx

Thank you for all the responses. We tried kitty litter and laundry detergent and Oxiclean and it disappeared several months ago. Then it rained, and you can see the stain again. The house and driveway were built just 10 years ago, and there is a homeowners association so we have to be careful. --108.73.xx.xx
