As some of you know lead paint is a source of trouble for everyone involved including the tenants who have to shuttle children to clinics and doctors, some of you could have some form of reporting your place as a rental (hopefully a no cost thing), the big city I live and workinhas had a registering fee of 35bux which many have ignored including the late housing court chief justice however he suddenly passed away about 2 years ago and the appointed judge came from the housing division and now he is demanding everyone register (a simple grab the money event because they never planned to do anything about the lead anyway which has been in the news more than once) which is actually a duplication of existing tax records and water bills.

So I have been gathering into on this and the closest places with a registry are Akron OH and Erie PA, the Erie registry has 162 rentals and 422 owner occupied, Akron has 68 rentals and 238 owner occupied. Looks like all homes should be registered or repeal the demand. Do any of you have the stats on lead registered places in your areas? --76.188.xxx.xx

We have no lead registry in my area that I'm aware of.

What I did just learn about recently is all land lords have until Nov 21, 2018 to register rentals in my town. This was voted on by City Counsel, but no notice sent out other than you just have to be generally reading info in news papers, etc. There is no COST, fortunately, and the purported idea is this is to help "facilitate communication" when there are issues. If you don't register and the city finds a code violation, there's a non-registration penalty ($200, I think?).

I doubt many Ma and Pa land lords are paying attention and will learn of this. Probably a lot of bigger land lords will just ignore it. Being the good Boy Scout I am, I went ahead and did all my props yesterday to be safe. We'll see if anything negative comes from it.

Back in 1999 my recently purchased apartment complex had lots of chipping lead paint. The city, Los Angeles, ordered me to remove the chipping paint and repaint the surface so it looks nice. They didn't care about the lead in the paint, the dangers is poses for the tenants, their children or the people removing the paint. I was give a short period of time to comply.

Being a licensed contractor with "lead certification" I informed the City this abatement required special techniques and tenant cooperation. The City didn't care and fined me each time they inspected the property and things weren't complete.

I took my case to the State of California, the EPA and several Federal agencies. No one could do a thing to educate my City since they were only after money and didn't care about safety.

Over time things changed and the Feds made State and City's comply with Lead Safe Practices.

In Europe, in 1900, they outlawed lead paint. It took almost 80 years for the United Stated to put Children's health before profit or the Paint Industry.

RB-MI, thanx - the rental count there is 720, owner is 669. I am hoping if there is a cost it is equal for each style. --76.188.xxx.xx

We don't have a lead paint registry but the city requires that we register the name of every tenant in each property that is a rental. If you don't then they charge you 200.00 penalty. I don't and won't because I can't see any reason why the city needs that kind of information. I think they're just getting around the fact they can't do forced inspections and charge for them. What would they need that kind of information for. I wonder if apartment complexes have to comply or is this just for the little guys. --174.233.xxx.x
