I was talking to a wholesaler last night and he said he could find the owner of any piece of property by checking the internet.
I said I could do the same thing by checking the GIS.
He said the GIS was not always correct and that he could find the real owner and find their correct mailing address.
Is there a better way to find the owner of a property than checking the local GIS?

Here, everything is online on the county's website. If a property sells, it may take a couple days to be updated. They're fairly quick about it though.
Mailing address is also included. I've had to change mine to my PO box after tenants started finding where I lived. --98.175.xxx.xxx |

In the county where live, my wife is the person who handles the computer programming that feeds the local GIS system from the Property Assessor's system. I can assure you that the GIS system is not updated every day. And the Property Assessor's system is updated from the Register of Deed's system. And I can assure you that feed isn't real-time either.
What I describe may not be the case where your properties are. But I'll bet it is.
The most current property owner info anywhere is always the Register of Deeds office (or whatever that function is called in your locale). --68.156.xx.xx |

Our county publishes every owner and mailing address. If you have a relationship with a Realtor you can ask them. We have access to RPR which includes approx. 130 million public records nationwide which includes all owners, mailing addresses and mortgage data which is updated weekly. --71.75.xx.xx |

Thanks for the responses.
I see errors in the local GIS system. For instance, it took 2 years for one of my properties to be correctly updated in the GIS.
NC INVESTOR, have you found RPR to be more accurate than the local GIS?
The local wholesaler will not tell me what system he is using.
