State Specific Question About: ILLINOIS (IL)

Received judgement against tenant, sheriff to come to sit out tenant in a few days, though tenant not living there, but ALL his things are there. My question, what are we to do with all his things that are to be removed? Sheriff told us to have lots of help in removing these items from 2nd story apartment, but did not say what we had to do with them after removal. --99.63.xxx.xxx

Call the sheriffs civil office and ask.In my area one county says put it on the curb, another county says lock it in the unit for a week and another county says put t in storage so you need to ask that specific sheriffs office --72.231.xxx.xxx

Be sure to have new or newly rekeyed locks for this day, a package of heavy garbage bags and gloves, between now and then just rest up watching some family or funny movies, you will need a large spurts of power to get the stuff thru the stairways. --76.188.xxx.xx

In Winnebago County,IL, we put all on the curb and the neighborhood swarms over the pickings. We aren't allowed anything of value in the stuff ourselves. --67.186.xxx.xxx

We had a tenant evicted (didn't show up for the hearing); moved out in January, leaving more than half of her stuff. No forwarding address. The damage hearing is set for April. Takes forever here in our County to get into Court and to finalize a bad tenant.

Her grown daughter contacted us and wanted to "pick through" for memorabilia. Told her "NO" -- take it all, we do not want it. Contacted Court, and they basically told us we have to hold onto it all until the Damage Hearing. Boxed and bagged everything up (except food, which we threw away), and it is in storage. Got the unit ready for showing. Doubt Tenant will show up at the damage hearing either. If she doesn't show up for the Damage Hearing, hopefully we can throw it all away.

Or if she doesn't show up, we could have a heck of a garage sale! Get back some of our money she owes us. --104.152.xx.xx
